By now, most of you are probably wondering: why preview a game that comes out in the next two weeks? ..and why only now?
Well, I was waiting to see the live chat with the Sims 3: Town Life Stuff Pack producer Jennifer Lane. You can watch it here .
So, after watching the live chat I realized that the producers around the Sims 3 franchise just don't «get it». Us, Sims fans, we do not want more rabbit holes. We want to be able to get inside the buildings. It should be part of transition between Sims 2 and Sims 3.
During the broadcast, she showed the new rabbit holes. First, for those who don't know, a rabbit hole is a building that your Sim goes into and you can't accompany him. You can't see anything inside. Sims 3 has normal buildings that you can visit like the Gym or the Library, but buildings like schools, restaurants, theaters, etc are rabbit holes.
As I was saying, she showed some of the new rabbit holes - all of them have pretty impressive designs and will look good on a modern city, but it doesn't really matter because you can't get inside them/interact with them.
She also showed the new community buildings like the gym and the library. Personally, I don't use any of them because there is only so much time and time flows really quickly in the Sims 3 lately.
I remember something that made me laugh a lot. Well, for starters the producer itself seemed as if she had never touched a computer before - don't mean to criticize or anything. She appears to be a nice lady and watching her do mistakes over and over was quite entertaining but what made me laugh under the secretary was when she showed the school and the interviewer said something like "Oh you can see some random stuff inside" and she said "yes, it's that detailed". Man, that detailed? You call that detailed? How about back in 2006, in The Sims 2: University, when you could go to a university and actually enter the building? What do you call that?
Anyway, the expansion pack DOES NOT ADD the ability to enter buildings. I thought they were going to surprise the fans but..oh well.
She also showed some of the new objects and said something like "Players when "simming" sometimes get bored of seeing the same objects over and over again, so we want to give them more stuff to look at and that's what the stuff packs are for." Well, my lady, then you should consider putting all the stuff in the store FREE.
This expansion hasn't been released yet and I am already ready to review it and give it a 2 out of 10 but I'll wait until the time comes.
Producers need to realize that the Sims 3 has had all its juice squeezed by people playing since 2000 and stuff packs DO NOT ADD any gameplay at all.
