It’s been an absolutely monstrous battle between the consoles this year, with all of them throwing out exclusive after exclusive in an attempt to take over your living rooms. This award celebrates the games consoles which have been the greatest experience over the past 12 months, knocking it out the park with unmissable exclusives, incredible third-party support and a range of updates to ensure that they are the best places to game.

PlayStation 4
On units shifted alone, the PlayStation 4 continued to dominate 2015 beyond all expectations. Sony’s console is outselling the unstoppable PlayStation 2 on a like-for-like basis since launch, and the recent worldwide price cuts means it shows no sign of slowing. On the game front Sony has the best console versions of pretty much every third-party game, including exclusive content in Destiny: The Taken King, Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. This has been joined by some stellar first-party offerings, with Until Dawn, Tearaway, Bloodborne and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection all impressing.

Nvidia Shield Console
Yet another stab at a the set-top box market, the Nvidia Shield Android TV is a fusion of PC, console and Android gaming that offers an impressive number of options out of the box. It’s powerful mobile chipset and native gamepad support make it the go to choice for the more demanding Android titles, including special ports of The Talos Principle, Portal and even Crysis 3. PC gamers can also stream some of the biggest PC games around straight to their Nvidia Shield Console using Nvidia’s new GRID streaming service.
