ASUS STRIX GTX 980 Overclocked Overview (OC VS No OC)
Written by: PCEGamer - 05:22 Aug-05-2017

It took the entire day of overclocking the GTX 980 and finding a stable clock speed in which grants about 7-17% FPS increment. I found that most games had an increase of 7-13+ FPS increase. Respectfully, I'm getting comparable performance to a GTX 980 Ti, all while having fantastic temps!

A gain is a gain when it cost you nothing. Well done!

IMO an overclock is worth it when it's 15-20% or higher or gives you 15-20% or higher performance, in most cases it did NOT give you that much more performance.

Oh wow, haha, and here I thought it did. I must have averaged my numbers wrong then. How do you transcribe the gained performance into percentages, then? I want to be accurate. Also, it looks like I'm gonna have to increase my voltage in order to get more performance. Thanks for the feedback!

in shadow of mordor you got an average of 151 OCed and 140 non-OCed, that is 7% performance increase.

In the witcher 3 you got an average of about 65fps with the OC-ed and 59fps avg with the non-OCed that's a 10% increase and I'd like to add that there were more shadows on the non-OCed one, because of the different time of day and in games shadows are much more demanding than the fake lighting they have.

Mad max you got an average of around 134fps with the OC-ed and about 122fps with the none-OCed that's 9% difference.

No idea in CS:GO as you were NOT in the same spots on both gameplays, you should have loaded an empty map and have went through the same route from one part of the map to the other, preferably on each of the 3 lanes.

Well that 17% should be CS:GO, but as I said it is irrelevant for the reasons I stated above.

Also I commented while watching the video, so we technically wrote our comments at the same time.

Hey, thanks for the observations! Yeah sorry about CS: GO I was very tired at that point and didn't focus on the setting. And I think you're right about the shadows on the non-OC. Sadly I didn't think of that at the moment, honestly didn't notice it either. But I'll be more careful and pay attention to details as they are essential in these kinds of tests and I, of course, want to be as accurate as possible. Thanks : D Lastly, sorry for not responding sooner, GD didn't give me any notifications.
