Shadow of War, Worth the Wait ?
Written by: tsalito - 10:31 Aug-31-2017

Ahh the age old question. Is a videogame worth the wait. This is a new series of blogs I am going to work on and I really hope you do like them. So let's begin with the highly anticipated Shadow of War.

Shadow of War is the highly anticipated sequel to 2014s Shadow of Mordor. Shadow of Mordor was a huge critical and commercial success and it was natural that there would be a follow up. But before we dwelve on Shadow of War lets talk about Shadow of Mordor.

Even before the first game launched there was a bit of a controversy. When the first reveal trailer hit the spotlight former Ubisoft Developer Charles Randall claimed that Shadow of Mordor was stealing code from AC 2, and to be honest I thought that was true. You see when I first watched that trailer I thought to my self, holy cow that is AC wearing a lord of the rings costume. And then when I saw the combat system I just growled with my Christian Bale voice " I'm Batman". So the game didnt get any points for me, it copied elements from other well established video games it showed me that it dint want to make any sort of risks. To be painfully honest I wasnt really looking forward to it, untill I got to play some of it from a friends computer.

The gameplay felt so smooth, it felt like a video game should addictive, fun and smooth. And ohh my that nemesis system was amazing, the story was mediocre but still had its ups, the ending might have been the worst ending since Mass Effect 3 but still for me the game was pretty awesome, I even picked it up at the steam Summer Sale even though I already had a hard copy on my bros Computer.

But now lets move to the game in question, Shadow of War. Is it goin to be a good game, is the hype train going to derail ?. Well to be honest it already has derailed. After the first reveal trailer got me saying I'm your bitch get my money, the game play trailers made me a little more skeptical. I didnt really see a difference in graphics it all felt like a reskin on Shadow of Mordor a few tweaks here and there some new character models but then again its been 3 years. You get games like Hellblade, that is basically an indie game or at least thats what it claims to be that utilizes such great technologies. Some might say if it aint broke dont fix it, but I say its 2017 not 2014.

However that was not when the hype train was starting to move off tracks for me, it was when Warned Brothers announced that there would be microtransactions in game like they were doing us a favor. They were pretending like those lootboxes were something to die for that a true hardcore fan would be grateful and that he would say here is my wallet. But what that did was make people mad and quite frankly lost me as a consumer. Lootboxes are nice for games like overwatch or Lol, or even Dota, I must have spent hundreds of euros buying chests and skins but in Shadow of War I tihnk its a bit out of place.

To summarize I think that Shadow of War will be a decent game, that will add some new gameplay elements to the Shadow of Mordor formula, but will not really be an all that different experience. Personally I am not really looking forward to it but I might just buy it at a Summer Sale for 10 euros or so. What about you are you looking forward to it, what are some games that you look forward to, also let me know if there are any games you would like to see in Worth the Wait. Thank you for reading.

It's all about those epic fights for me, fck graphics. I could not care less. I loved the fighting, and i'm looking forward to the sequel, if only to discover more executions and fight hundreds of orcs in me lonesome.

I found the combat of the first game a repetitive boredom copied from the Arkham series, the story was random and boring too (I'm a huge middle Earth fan btw) and overall the mechanics where all old and used a million times apart from the nemesis system. As a result I just quit the game halfway in and never looked back. So they sequel leaves me completely indifferent :/. But who knows… Maybe they'll surprise me :p.

For me it has to be at least as good as the first one in terms of gameplay, content(world, level, enemies, rpg elements, etc, etc) and story, because I did NOT get enough of the first one.

Though I heard there would be micro-transactions, which sucks hard if they actually make it a grind fest to make you buy the micro-transactions… just sell the game at a higher than 60$ price if you can't break even without micro-transactions… if it is a great game, I believe that many would give the extra 10-20$ to get it.
