GT 720 - Users! I need your opinions.
Written by: ronweasley - 16:47 Dec-27-2017

Hi GDers!

Now right to the point! I'm saving up. I'm saving up huge for a completely new system that I'm going to buy in about 2 years or so. Until then I'm gonna get myself a cheap second hand GPU. The reason why I'm not gonna try to ride it out with my integrated GPU is because of an error that goes something like this,

Display driver stopped responding and has recovered

I am sick of this. I don't need to play the newest or most graphically intensive titles. All I wanna do is play online in LFS and attack the corners of Akina in Assetto Corsa with my perfectly tuned AE86. This error prevents me from doing so. It's not that my current iGPU can't run these at respectable frame rates but rather the fact that it cant play continuously without popping out that error and crashing the whole game. It happens at odd times, when I was in the process of accelerating out of a corner in LFS multiplayer it suddenly came up. Usually it happened whenever smoke was being generated but this time there was no smoke in sight.

So coming back to the real purpose of this entry is that I wanted a cheap under $50 GPU to allow me to play my LFS and other older games happily with no frustration. I was browsing through the Craigslist equivalent of my country when I came across a GT 720 Palit 2GB for about $35. It appears to be in good condition and the seller specifies that he has used the card for a year and that there is 2 years of store warranty left over. My question to those who have this card or have used it in the past is, How does it perform? How much power does it suck when under full load and you guys could also give your opinions about the price but do keep in mind that hardware prices do fluctuate between countries and in my country (Sri Lanka) we are sadly in the expensive spectrum. :(

Merry Christmas to all!

If you haven't plunked down the money yet, and you don't mind buying used, on Ebay you can easily find a used GTX 660 or Radeon HD 7850 "buy it now" for a bit less than a new GTX 1030…. either of these cards would kinda crush the 1030 in performance….. if you're patient and like to bid, you could even score a GTX 680, or Radeon HD 7950 for around the same…. and I don't think I even need to tell you how much better either of those would be…… hint infinitely, lol

Lol. Definitely better but the last thing I got from Ebay came here crushed to pieces. Not gonna go through the risk again. Thans for the hint tho. :)

Fair enough….. I've done alot of business on ebay, and I've had far better experiences, and find that ebay will generally always favor the buyer in most disputes, additionally alot of items have options for very cheap extended warranties from square trade…. so I find ebay pretty safe in general….. but I can definitely understand the lack of trust with private sellers, and the hesitation to buy used in the first place….. when buying used on ebay, I don't like to go over $100 myself.

just go get a 1030 or a rx 550. Cards designed with gaming in mind, as simple as that.

rx 550 overall, but the value is the same, for each 1% performance it costs 1% more.

update your drivers or roll back to an older driver to remove the problem.
the gt 720 is terrible, for 25$ more(60$) you can find gt 1030s and they game extremely well at 1080p at lower settings and 720p at highish settings.

Ok, I went on to YouTube to look at some gameplay videos and the GT 720 plain sucks. I'll try to get a 1030.
