Hey there all my GD bro's. I thought i do a small review on this fanstastic game that i just got for my Nintendo 3ds XL. Since there is no 3ds section in the reviews, i just write a blog about it.
Monster Hunter 3 was already released on the Wii in 2010. It became a hit and sold many copies. The game was praised because of it's extremly addicting armor/weapon crafting system, and huge monster battles. Now on 2013 march, they re released it as "Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate" simultaneously on the 3ds and Wii U (I got the 3ds version cause i don't have a Wii U), ultimate because they have added lots more extra content on it, so now it is the ultimate monster hunter 3 experience.
The game starts with you creating your own "monster hunter", and then you start in a village called "Moga village". There really isn't a "story" in this game, but still sort of a story. This huge monster called "Lagiacrus" is terrorizing the village and it becomes a threat to the villagers, and you have to kill it (Lol that's basically it). But before you even get to him you have to venture trough all sorts of other different worlds, slaying other badass monsters.
The gameplay is very "Capcomish". It's Unforgiving, with an extremly hard learning curve, just like their mega man series for example haha (damn japs). The controls are fluid though, but theres one catch for it being so damn hard. You don't have any target locking, or any other aids to help you target your enemies. No, you just have to move infront them and press the attack button, you have to time it well, if your new to the series (like i am), it is likely for you to miss alot, it really is hard to actually hit a target. You can't move while you attack (Kinda like resident evil), and you cant dodge or anything (Only after your attack is finished). This is actually a great concept, because then the game doesn't turn into mindless button mashing, it requiers you to be patient and carefully plan where to attack and when.
The weapons are massive and you really feel it when you use them. You have hammer, long sword, great sword (big ass 2h sword), heavy bowgun, light bowguns, lance's (with a shield) , gunlance, dual blades , sword and shield, bow, switch axe (a weapon that can switch into a sword or an axe)...There's tons of different play styles you can choose from, wich is cool.
Moga village is your main "camp" from where you receive quests and then venture out to the monster hunter world to complete them. There are different types of quests, there's resource gathering (mining or collecting certain items in the world), then there is the basic "slay this much ammount of this type of monsters", then there are the "Boss" battle quests, wich are the best ones, when you have to kill a huge ass monster. Then there's also capture quest's, where you have to capture the monsters. Out of the resources you find in the world and get from the monsters, you create new armor sets and weapons, wich is the best thing in the entire game. It's so addicting, and very rewarding. There are ton's of different armor sets and weapons, there are just too many to chose from. Every monster has it's own "set" both weapon and armor. So say for example if i want the"Lagiacrus set" i have to grind that monster untill i have enough of its resources to create the complete set, after all that hard work, it's really awesome to finally create the armor. Monster Hunter 3's core thing is basically in collecting the different armor's and weapons, and it's not like in other games, where you just throw away your old armor when you get a new one. It's not like this armor is better than the other (they just become sexier as you move on in the story :p), no you basically collect armor set's and then use whatever you feel like, but there's no point in throwing away any of them. You can upgrade the armor's and weapons too into higher lvl's , if there's one armor you really like you can start upgrading it to the max, same goes with weapon.
The graphics are incredible, considering it's a 3ds. The game seems to run at full 60 fps constnatly, but with 3D effect enabled it runs a bit slower, but not much. The monsters are fantastically detailed, the graphics are colorful, the light's are great. Sound is also very good, it is a 3ds, yes it has smaller speakers than for example a tv's when you play on Wii U, but they are loud and clear enough, and if you want to have the best experience, you just plug headphones and your all set. Overall the game looks and sounds great, definatly one of the best looking 3ds game out there.
There is also an online feature in this game, but unfortunatly it's only for the Wii U version. I don't understand what jackass came up with that idea, they just desperately want people to buy a Wii U Console (money money money). I see no reason why online couldn't have been added on the 3ds aswell...There is still a local co-op up to 4 players wich is great, my brother has this also on his 3ds, so im lucky. There is no problem in Solo, it is great, but the multiplayer just makes it more fun. There is also an "arena" mode, in wich you can play solo or co op with your buddy, where you can choose wich boss monster you want to fight, wich you also encounter in the main story.
Overall i think this is a great game, and i highly recommend it to anyone who owns a Nintendo 3ds or a Wii U. The learning curve can be brutal sometimes, but once you get the hang of it, it's ton of fun.
Hope you liked my review.
Ps. I haven't finished this game, so my review may lack some content information. It is such a long game, I still have lots of unknown things that await for me, so cheers, ima go back and play it :D.
