5 step laptop maintenance
Written by: TheDemontool - 06:07 Jul-05-2012

Unless the component is fixed externally replacing replacing broken internal compenets without hassel is almost impossible and needs to be done by a professional. You may already know this if you had tried to replace your low end GPU with a better one or have wanted to fix more RAM. Some laptops have this ability which allow you to replace certain componts without having to breakapart the laptop but for others you should know that after your laptop get dissasembled chances of it working again without new problems is slim. So you should learn to take care of your laptop better so that it may serve you longer.

Here are some of the stuff you need to lookout for,

1. Reduce the exposure to dust to a extreme minium. Dust can block your laptop's ventialation ducts and cause it to overheating which will lead to component faliures. Try covering the ducts with a thin tissuse paper while using and when not in use you must definately store it away in its case. Try to get it cleaned by a professional once a year at least.

2.Try to minimize usage in very warm or damp surroundings and never leave it inside a roasting vehicle. Also try to use a cooling pad if your in a very warm area.

3.Never keep the laptop continuously charging or always plugged in after it is fully charged. Remove the battery if your going to continue using it pluged in.

4.Defrag hard drive regularly and remove unwanted programs that clog your resources. This will help reduce the batter drainage.

5.Never use it on bed or a similar soft surface where the air ducts will get blocked. Dust from your bed might get sucked in as well. Always try to use it on a flat surface.

Submit A Benchmark

Welcome. From this page you can submit a personal benchmark to GD. Once approved by GD admin everyone can search for your bench results here. The more results the more we all learn.

There are lots of free benchmark tools that test parts of your PC. Select a Type in the form to the right, then select a Tool and then select a Test. You will see a weblink appear beside your selection. Click this link to get the benchmark Tool. Try NovaBench for an all in one benchmark that is only 12Mb to download.

How To

Run your choosen Benchmark Tool on your PC, using the benchmark tool's default setting. Take a screenshot displaying the benchmark score and information displaying your rig and submit that to us.

Point 3: My laptop is different.Only 1 hour battery timing and I can't do proper gaming in battery mode. But I wouldn't like to plug the battery out and then in and then out and...... It's a problem at least for me. :D
(You'll say I can use it like desktop but battery saves you from power failures.)

how's it about the "point 3"?
let's say I'll take it every day to school except weekends, then should I remove the battery?

Remove the battery only if your using your laptop as a desktop. If your taking it to school it's hardly continuously charging is it :)

It's just that if it's left charging for extensive periods once it's fully charged, 1. It will produce excess heat that might harm your laptop components. 2. Constant charge and discharge cycles might harm your battery's life. If you want the last reason in extensive detail Click This

You don't need to worry if your only using the laptop for a short period :)
