Cougar PSU are absolute crap. Just take my advice from the computer market. They are not that durable. You better think about NZXT or the best SeaSonic. For the Motherboard, save the money and get the Sabertooth. More than enough. Invest the difference into the Power supply !

If you're still looking for display ideas, I would highly recommend an IPS monitor. Most computer monitors use TN technology, but IPS is far superior for brightness, contrast, and especially viewing angle. IPS monitors used to be limited to photo editing and office applications because, while the image it produces is superior, it had a very slow pixel refresh rate, causing ghosting on moving images, especially action games. IPS manufacturers now have them down to less than 8ms, which will more than work for gaming. I use a 24" 16x10 1920x1200 Dell U2412M, which is the best monitor I've ever owned. It was a bit more than $300. However, companies like ViewSonic and LG do make 1920x1080 23" IPS monitors for about $200. I will never go back to a TN monitor!

Any Dell Ultrasharp monitor below the U2412M. The 21.5 in model is actually well priced, as seen here. Didn't I recommend the U2412M to you greg? :D

15:45 Jul-21-2012

Yes, the Dell U2412M has an 8ms response time. I've used a monitor with a 1ms response time, and I can't tell a difference between 1 and 8. It's when you get to about 12ms+ that it becomes a problem.

I see. Your monitor is a bit too expensive but what do you think about the ones I suggested below in this thread :)

The second comment is about the keyboard. I normally really like Logitech products, but I tried a G510 and it was a disaster. First, the build quality did not seem to match the price, as the whole thing felt relatively flimsy. Second, the drivers were a mess. The CPU/RAM monitor applet did not always work, I could not get the keyboard to cooperate with Gmail to set up the Inbox monitor in the LCD screen, and running FRAPS as an applet was inconsistent. I worked for an hour with Logitech tech support, and they couldn't get it to run correctly. They even gave me access to a company site with unreleased beta drivers for it, and even those did not help. The final complaint I have about the G510 is how pathetic the back-lighting strength is. I like a nice back-light glow from my mouse and keyboard, and you could barely tell the G510 was plugged in.

I used to have a BlackWidow Ultimate, but the drivers stopped working for some reason, plus I hated how LOUD the mechanical keys were. Now I have a Corsair Vengeance K90, and I like it better than the BlackWidow. It has mechanical keys, but they're far quieter, plus it's made of aluminum, so it has a real weight to it and a brushed metal finish. And the back lit keys are just as bright as the BlackWidow.

Right now Amazon has the K90 for $110, the G510 for $90, and the BlackWidow for $103. The K90's beefier build quality justifies it's premium over the G510, and its drivers are far better than the BlackWidow's. I don't anything about Roccat.

I have two comments to make about the list so far. First, I do recommend a separate sound card. Considering the total cost of the machine, it costs very little. When I built the PC I'm currently using I started out just using the mobo audio, but almost on a whim I decided to throw a sound card in it to see if it could sound better. I did a bunch of research to determine the best price/performance, and settled on the ASUS Xonar DX. It has a very high S/N ratio (more than 30x that of the mobo), and it sounds spectacular. I immediately heard a difference, almost like someone lifted a veil off of my speakers. The sound opened up and began to sparkle. And I got it for about $60 after a rebate.

I use external soundard(s) when recording our rock band;
but I really see no point why to buy soundard for gaming, because all new mobo-soundcards allows 5.1/7.1 audio with digital output:)

I have a set of Corsair SP2500 speakers, and they are just insanely killer speakers. It's a 2.1 set up, but the quality is better than any 5.1 PC speaker system I've ever heard. Each satellite speaker is bi-amped, which means that the tweeter and midrange driver each are amplified separately. The subwoofer has two drivers, each of those are separately amplified. Build quality is top-notch. Music sounds crystal clear and powerful, while games (especially explosion-y games) tear through the foundation at high volumes. I've seen this set run anywhere from $190 to $240, but they absolutely smoke anything else I've ever heard, and I've been PC gaming a long time.

Yeah! They are great. I tested a pair out in a shop but isn't the price a bit too extreme for a 2.1 setup? Besides is it THX certified?
gregsuarez
12:11 Jul-18-2012

THX certification used to mean something in the world of home theater, but its importance has dwindled quite a lot over the past few years. THX is basically a stamp of approval that a component meets certain engineering specs, which a lot of products do anyway, but without the added cost of the THX logo. As for price, quality is quality and you get what you pay for. There are dozens of cheaper alternatives, but I haven't heard anything else that can beat these.
