My So soon Rig !
Written by: Yamadron - 02:04 Aug-07-2012

After spending 4 years with my lovely Qosmio, I think it is the time for it to retire gaming. It is still good for college LAN parties and some protable gaming, but no serious gaming anymore.

Here I go with the List

CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz

Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V Motherboard

GFX : Sapphire AMD HD 7950 3GB OC GDDR5  or NVIDIA GEFORCE 660 Ti (Depending on price)

RAM: G.skill Ripjaws-X 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 CL9 1.5v Dual Channel Memory Kit

SSD(System/Games): ADATA S510 60GB (which is currently in my laptop)

HDD(Storage): WD Caviar Green WD10EZRX 1TB 64MB Cache

Case: Thermaltake Chaser MK-I Full Tower

Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster S22A300B 22" 1920 x 1080 monitor

PSU: SeaSonic M12II Bronze 620W 80 PLUS

Case

I will have to wait for cash to get these extra peripherals:

Mouse: ROCCAT Kova[ ] Gaming Mouse

Keyboard: ROCCAT Isku Illuminated Gaming Keyboard

Cooler: Cooler Master V6GT

Fan Controller: NZXT Sentry LX Aluminum Dual Bay Fan Controller

Recently their quality has started to drop. They are cheap though, so I guess its just luck of the draw. WD drives are more likely to not show up DOA, but like I said, its just luck.

Intel 330 series, as their prices are dropping rapidly. Otherwise, Samsung 830 or Crucial m4, no other brand should be considered :D

One: I wouldn't get a Z77 chipset mobo with an i5-2500K. Nor would I get that model, its too overpriced for what it is. ASRock makes exceptional budget mobos that offer similar functionality at half the cost. If you stick with the 2500K, get a Z68 chipset mobo, like the ASRock Extreme3 Gen3. I'd definitely go for the 7950 over the 660 Ti, unless the 660 Ti turns out to be really close in performance to the 670. It has me worried though with the 192-bit interface, as it may present problems at high resolutions, i.e. WQHD, or in multi-monitor setups. Also, I would recommend the Corsair 600T over the Tt case, mainly because the Corsair offers the same level of cooling and expandability with some better functions. Since we unfortunately don't have a case section yet, I'll refer you here. I'll also recommend the Dell ST2220L over the Samsung, but that is at your discretion, especially based on price. Let me know if you have further questions.

- I would not stick with the 2500K. It is just the available option now till I change my mind to get a 3750K. Or even if any new CPU's after Ivy, there is a chance that the Z77 can handle it. Plus I always like to have the most updated Motherboard, so It can handle upgrades as much as I want. if it the latest, why don't i get it and I like the Sabertooth :P
-ASUS is always a trusted brand. I know ASRock was a division of ASUS before. I trust ASUS. Sorry :)
- No multi-monitors for me, I am not fond of it at all :D.
- For the the case the 600T is more expensive, I would go with a HAF X if I changed my mind anyway.
-Samsung has never let me down. It is my choice all over the time. All the TVs in the home are Samsung, even the laptop display is Samsung. They never let me down a bit ;)

Well, if you are set about all that, then you'll be fine. By the way, the LGA 1155 is being discontinued with Haswell, the next line of processors from Intel. I would go cheap but effective now so that you won't have to break the bank if Haswell offers huge performance gains. Also, the 600T is the same price as the Tt here, so that's why I recommended it :D

Haswell is 22nm as well which gives me a high chance to be supported by the Z77 via a BIOS upgrade. Exactly the same scenario as Z68 owners who want to fit in Ivy bridges. And even if it is no longer compatible, it would allow me to get the best Ivy on the market when Haswells kick in = Ivy price drop. And I am still getting the best performance I need.
The cases price difference is $20. I know it is not much , perhaps I change my mind and get the 3570K and add extra $10. Not sure yet. The price of the 660 Ti would definitely settles the decision.

Yeah I would think so. I still stick by the 600T recommendation, but like I said, its up to you. I've heard that Intel is using an LGA 1150 design though, which would mean that LGA 1155 processors, A.K.A Ivy/Sandy Bridge, wouldn't be supported by BIOS or anything else.

It might be; however, in spite of this, I can get the Best ivy when Haswell comes, which will be enough till 2016?! .Being updated is no matter for me as far as I can satisfy my gaming needs ;)
About the case, you have to convince me why I should pick it over the the Chaser MK 1. I am not easy ;). I know what I pick well.

I'll try my best :D and yes, a top-end Ivy (like mine) will last into 2016/17 with ease. The 600T has latches to detach its side panels, instead of thumb screws, which make it easier and faster to do maintenance. Also, it has more grommets on the inside which make it easier to rout cables throughout the case. It has configurable hard drive cages and tool-less 5.25" drive bays. Furthermore, it offers the same amount of cooling in a smaller but wider and longer frame. Its dust filters are also easier to remove than conventional dust filters. If you're into water-cooling, the 600T will support the H100 with push-pull fans out of the box. Also, the base model has fan mounts on its side panel for additional 120mm fans for improved airflow. The white model, my favorite, has a larger transparent window than the Mark I. If you need more, I'd gladly help, but I know that you know your stuff, so whatever you choose will work for you. Also, nice PSU choice, I love Seasonic :D

The 600T has latches to detach its side panels, instead of thumb screws, which make it easier and faster to do maintenance. That is a +1 for it. But also it is more vulnerable to getting stuck.
ACCEPTED
Also, it has more grommets on the inside which make it easier to rout cables throughout the case The Chaser MKI grommets are more than enough. You are not going to fit a server inside.
REJECTED
It has configurable hard drive cages and tool-less 5.25" drive bays
The configurable hard drive cages is a nice feature. But I am not going to move the case.
REJECTED
Its dust filters are also easier to remove than conventional dust filters
The Chaser is easy a well.

I agree it will be easier to install. Although I am not into liquid cooling, installing the H100 would not be a miracle in the Chaser. You don't know how I can mod anything I want ;)
NEUTRAL

So does the Chaser MKI with up to 200x200mm
REJECTED
The white model, my favorite, has a larger transparent window than the Mark I.
I agree, but you lost the Side Fan cooling performance for a cool view of what is inside ..
NEUTRAL
------------
The Result is 1 ACCEPTED(+1), 3 REJECTED(-1) and 3 NEUTRAL(0).
The verdict: NOT CONVINCED, but Thanks for trying ;)
Do know that All this happened because the price is not the same. Plus, the MKI looks cooler ;)
