How to speed up Windows 7 for gaming
Written by: WorryBear - 19:27 Sep-13-2012

Hello guys, so all of you gamers who have problems with games and system performance this is going to be little guide how to speed up you're computer and you're games. Some of this works for Windows XP, Vista, and even Windows 8.

Frist step is to download free software CCleaner, you can download it from this site http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner. Thats one of the most popular PC Cleaners, I use it for very long time and I am very happy with it. Basically it cleans you're temp files, you're history and all the crap on computer that you don't need, also it has integrated Registry cleaner. Also in CCleaner you can disable start-up software's that are slowing down you're computer on start-up. Personally my computer boot's with only one software and that's Avast antivirus software.

Second step is to made some changes to virtual memory, so you need to go -> My computer, System properties -> Advanced system settings -> Advance tab -> Under performance click Settings -> Then go Advanced and under Virtual memory click Change. There you will go Custom size and chose the amount of MB's you want to have as you're spare RAM... so Virtual memory is basically using your HARD DISK when you are short on you're RAM memory. In some situations that's going to be useful.

Third step is optional, if you are low on RAM... like if you have 2GB of RAM or even less I recommend you to do this step. Go My computer -> System properties -> Advanced system settings -> and click under Advanced tab Performance and click settings, under the tab Visual Effects, chose adjust  for best performance, that way windows will use smaller amount of RAM.

Forth step is to do little trick that some people don't know. It's to disable service SuperFetch, that's the service that is caching you're RAM so next time you start up some software that you usually use if will start up faster. I did experiment and after disabling that service I didn't see any start-up slowdowns I just noticed that my RAM memory is not 700mb's its now about 600mb's. To disable this service go to: Start -> type services.msc
and there find service SuperFetch and click right click on it, properties, and start-up DISABLE. If you see any problems but you should enable that service again, but I have it OFF for years without any problems. Also by disabling this service you can get rid of hummy noise coming out from you're HARD DISK :)

Submit A Benchmark

Welcome. From this page you can submit a personal benchmark to GD. Once approved by GD admin everyone can search for your bench results here. The more results the more we all learn.

How To

Select a Tool in the form to the right, then select a Test. You will see a weblink appear beside your selection. Click this link to get the benchmark Tool. Try NovaBench for an all in one benchmark that is only 12Mb to download.

Run your choosen Benchmark Tool on your PC, using the benchmark tool's default setting. Take a screenshot displaying the benchmark score and information displaying your rig and submit that to us.

for step#2 it's far better to have more RAM or even ReadyBoost rather than using swap memory from HDD, it extremely slows down rig, although in some cases I had to increase my virtual memory to 3,5GB on wxp because of saving games and using mods...
for step#3 I suggest using basic win98 skin because it will significantly decrease OS resource use
nice blog anyway:Đ

For step 2: Do not separate HDD by partitions,or i you have it separated don't put page file on both of them. It is good to have two or more HDDs for page file. Defragment you virtual memory.

Nothing new for me, I had an kinda old PC before, so i became Tweak guru ;)
From time to time wipe content of C:\System32\ Prefetch\ in order to prevent loading a bunch of programs into your RAM while booting up. :D

I avoid problems while booting up by simply never doing so! Aside from power outages, weekends away from home (very rare), or times when I decide to clean my hardware, my PC is pretty much always on 24/7!

I don't think that having you're PC turned on for 2 or more days can give you anything good... m8 I think you should turn off you're computer on night... or when you don't want to use it... this way you will ony get more dust and spend more electicity :)

And last step is to set you're computer for maximum performance and to download Windows 7 registry tweaks. So to set you're computer for maximum performance go to Control Panel and there find Power Options, there find High performance and click it and save the changes. Then download this registry tweaks, they will speed up menu-delay time, faster up you're windows explorer navigation and etc. If you don't trust me then don't download this... but it's completely free and there is no viruses in this.. :)

Step number seven? yea seven :) Is to disable Indexing service (windows search), thats service that you really don't use and it's only slowing down you're games and computer. To do this go Start , type services.msc and find Windows search and click properties and start-up disable.

Step number six is to uninstall and defrag you're hard drive with default Windows Defrag software or download some free software's from Internet. I recommend Auslogics Disk Defrag. Some files can be fragmented and if that's file of you're game.. you can experience often crashes, fps drops etc. etc. Nothing good can come from fragmented files.

Fifth step and one of the most important one's are to download the latest drivers for you're computer. Most important drivers are from you're GPU. To download the latest drivers go to www.amd.com or www.nvidia.com. Also I recommend to you that you use some software for Driver download. Something like Driver Checker etc. Bad or old drivers can often be problem so this is very important.
