Building computer HELP

Postby neilsugg » Sun Feb 05, 2012 9:06 am

So My friend gave me his old desktop computer cause he got a new one, well his board and cpu is newer and better then mine, but he said his computer used to have a virus a long time ago thats why he quit using it. I know how to unscrew the board and put it in my case and match all my cords to his and put my sound and video cards in the right slots but my question is I wanna make sure his board is safe to use, Any way I could nuke it and put windows 7 on it, which is my current OS.

first of all check if that virus isnt Contagious :D
second of all a virus is simply on the OS , format the drive and install a fresh OS on it.(if he even gave you his drive, if your using your old drive just plug it in and everything will work perfectly.)
for general knoweldge, a virus is always on the OS so the only part it has an effect on is the hard drive, and even then it cannot harm it but only corrupt your OS and maybe a file here and there.

p.s nice seeing you again, you havent visited the site for a long time :D

well congrats on moving:) i hear the weather is nice in arizona 8-)
about fable, im not familliar with that game( i know the name not the game) so i cannot help you wait that but youre friend is always welcomed in the main site where the requirments and the can i run it tool is there for his convenience.
third thing is that wiping youre hard drive clean is really simple.(if you want to delete everything on it,including personal files and all fo that stuff) just put in a cd with any windows install(xp/vista/7, but 7 is recommended) and in there its pretty simple , if its a windows xp install a blue screen will apear and it will ask you if you want to format ,say yes and choose the quick NTFS.
if its vista/7 a reguler screen will apear and it will give you the list of your partitions in the hard drive , just pick C drive and click on format.
this will delete everything and the windows install will begin right after that automaticlly :D
if you need any help yorure welcome to ask in here or add me up on skype (ill send you my contact's name in a private message if you want to)
