Do game companies overstate game requirements?

Postby timmytucker » Sat Dec 17, 2011 11:55 am

So, when in college I did not play a lot of video games. Now that I graduated, I am regaining an interest... I never played a lot of PC games before... but now I am.

I am confused about system requirements... particularly for Call of Duty Black Ops.

In the chart on the top of the page, the minimum requirements differ from the official ones listed below... What are the real system requirements? Where did game-rankings get the minimum requirements in the chart? Are those requirements from game-rankings own tests, while the official ones are overstated?

If game requirments were accurate the existance of this forum would have no meaning at all. They are not accurate and companies often want to force gamers to buy a new graphics card or generally upgrade ,but it is not always nessecary.

hahaha okay. That's what I thought. So, how does Game-debate get its system requirements? Independent tests?

Ah okay. How does user feedback work? Like, how do those requirements get calculated? And what is the difference between the Minimum Requirements and the Adjusted?

you go into the main site after you checked your fps , and then you go to the "Ratings" section where you put in the res you played on , the level of detail(low-ultra) AA/AF/MSAA and what fps you got and after that our beloved admins look at the scores validate the info and adjust the requirments to the real deal.

Ah word! This site is awesome... So the minimum requirements come from the users, and the GD adjusted are the ones admins adjust? How do the admins adjust? Sorry for so many questions, just want to fully understand this awesome site.

The minimum requirements come from the publishers the adjusted requirements are our own requirements based on the feedback.
