Buying PC for Racing games

Postby GODMODE » Fri May 18, 2012 9:47 am

Hi all,
I've joined Game Debate now and hope to make new gamer friends :)
I'm Vishnu from India and I'm planning to buy a desktop for playing Racing games.
I will be playing only car games (all sorts), I never have/will play those shooting games like BF3 or Wow (sorry).
I will buy a LOGITECH G27 + PLAYSEAT EVOLUTION very soon :D
I heard today's PC offers better graphics than PS3 or Xbox. So decided to buy a PC.
I'm planning on buying DELL U2412M as a 24-INCH MONITOR for ~350$ (expensive but I guess its worth it :?: , since it has IPS and height adjustable stand and the screen can be rotated to landscape/portrait).
Now I need to buy a CPU to go along with the monitor.

REQUIREMENTS :
==============
=> I want to play all Car racing games with maximum graphics that the game offers untill PS4 releases (if it beats my PC in graphic department).
=> I want my CPU also to support atleast 3 monitors to support my racing setup easily.

MY CONFIGURATION :
===================
I made some research and have come up with a configuration, correct me wherever I'm wrong.

=> PROCESSOR : Intel i-5 . ( I see there are ~5 models, Which I do I choose ?? )
=> RAM : 8GB ( Is 2x4 GB better than 1X8 GB ??)
=> GRAPHIC CARD : Nvidia GTX 560 Ti 1GB DDR5 (Again is the lower model in this enough? )
=> HDD : 1TB @ 7200 Rpm ( Do I really need an expensive SSD along with this?? )
=> MOTHER BOARD : I really have no idea. I want it to support 16GB RAM, USB 3.0 and should support the above components perfectly.
=> CABINET : I want it to have USB 3.0 ports , not interested in looks/lightning .
=> POWER SUPPLY : What do I buy? How many W?
+ Add any DVD drive to insert games CDs + Decent Keyboard + other components needed if I missed anything out.
=> I have already bought a Razer Death Adder Black editon as mouse. (Even though I don't play shooting games, my friend forced me into it :roll: )

== I want this configuration to be able 2 run all racing games in the next 1-2 years @ the maximum settings ==

PS: I don't want to spend too much on some extreme gaming rig bcos I won't play BF3 with ultra turned on (Tbh I don't even know what that means :) )

My budget <1000$ for CPU , 900-1000$ is enough I guess, can spend 100$ more if its really needed.
====================================================================================

Thanks in advance :)

firstly i am also indian from kerala!

for motherboard this is enough --
http://www.game-debate.com/motherboard/ ... sus%20P5Q3

and u may need a 750W+ PSU. it's cheap on flipkart :)

plan ur cpu by comparing with high demanding racing games like Dirt 3,nfs run etc.
the cpu which can run these games on ULTRA settings will surely be awesome

Hi m8,
Thanks , but is'nt 750W unnecessary? I guess 550W is enough? Also I can see the recommended settings for these games, but don't know where to find the maxed out settings configuration :?

I'm from Finland, so I dont know anything about prices in India, but I'll still try to help you little bit :D

Processor: Intel Core i5 3570K
RAM: 2x4GB set
Graphic Card: What is this lower model you are talking about? :D
HDD: You dont need SSD but it's alot faster than normal HDD
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Pro3, Z77
Case: Dont really know about this one, but bitfenix shinobi or something like that should be good.
PSU: Good 450W/500W is enough. Superflower or xfx for exempel.

first of all welcome to our loving community, may your stay be pleasant :D

second of all i understand your love to the racing genre, it used to have amazing games but lately i cant find anything to stimulate my senses ,good thing im a huge fan of the FPS genre and it was a good year for that genre.

now lets talk business,cpu: core i5 3550,its the new ivy bridge model ,no overclocking and splendid performance.
gpu: hd 7850, this card offers lower temps ,better performance ,quiet operation and lower power consumption. i think its the better choice but some might say otherwise.
MotherBoard: a board i like is the MSI P67A-C43 B3 P67 , its full of good features(Sata 3,USB 3,black pcb etc..)
and its very cheap (no more then 80$)
memory:2x4 GB 1333 MHz ram(1600 MHz is a good choice too), more then that is an overkill and when running a single stick your losing the dual channel boost so its better to use 2 sticks.
cabinet: NZXT Source 210 Elite USB3 Black .cheap,front usb 3 and nice airflow.
powersupply: any power supply with mroe then 450W from a good brand (corsair,antec,seasonic,XFX,HEC) will suffice . a PSU i like is the SeaSonic M12II 520W,high efficiency and very quiet operation.
mouse: great choice, planned on getting it but the led on it scared me away,it makes me sweat and lose grip and in FPS losing grip for a second will cause your death.

if you have any other problem dont be afraid to ask :D

But if you go Corsair PSU, dont choose CX models.

also completely forgot. the monitor, its a great choice but better go for the 23 inch version, has the same panel same color density but the price tag is significantly lower.

@Mustaomena - Thanks :)
@Sauce Boss - Thanks a lot, exactly what I wanted. :)
=>> About the graphic card you mentioned, I prefer a nvidia card instead of AMD, bcos the processor is intel. And is this card equal or better than GTX 560 Ti ? Also I think it has 2GB dedicated memory (is 2GB really needed ?)
Is there a 1GB model ? and If there is, will it work perfectly with intel processor?

=>> About Razer Death adder = Buy the "black edition" . It does'nt have any lights on the mouse or the scroll wheel. So no over heating. Also this particular version has grippy side part. :) Other death adder versions have LEDs.

=>> Also I have'nt played any racing game after NFS Most wanted in the last 5 years :( SO I guess I'll have lot of fun and catching up when my new PC is finally assembled :D

=>> Also playing on the above PC will be better than playing in PS3 or Xbox right?? I mean graphics will be more real in this PC ?

=>> About the monitor, Should I go for 24-inch instead of 23-inch , bcos the former has 16:10 ration and 23" has 16:9 . I don't really know whether the bigger ratio will be useful for me? I will play games/watch movies/read books/ play poker :D

Thanks everyone :)

AMD cards work with intel processors.

And yes, your computer will be better than PS3 or XBOX360

Thanks again Mustaomena. :)
Hi all,
I have browsed online for the component prices and have come up with the list. :

Processor = Intel i-5 3500 = 10,000
Graphic card = AMD HD 7850 2GB = 15,500
Mother board = MSI P67A-C43 B3 P67 = 5,000
RAM = 2x4 GB 1600 Mhz = 4,000
Cabinet = NZXT Source 210 Elite USB3 Black = 3,000
Power Supply = SeaSonic M12II 520W = 3,500
HDD = 1TB / 2TB @7200rpm = 5,500 / 7,500
CD Drive = Sony / Samsung = 1,500
Key Board = Razer Arctosa gaming keyboard = 2,200
Mouse = Already have Razer Death Adder
----------
TOTAL = ~ 50,000 = ~ 1000$ (1$ = ~50 INR )
----------
Monitor = Dell U2312M / U2412M = 14,720 / 18,250

=>> I guess I did'nt miss anything out. ( If you find anything missing , plz lemme know ). I'll search for discounts, offers, etc for these components.. Hopefully I'll save atleast ~5,000 and upgrade to 2TB HDD. :)

I'll buy the components individually online from various sites whoever offer the best price and then find a guy to put them into one.

I'm very happy with this configuration. So how many max. no. of FULL HD LED monitors can I connect to this ?

Basically my aim is to have a similar setup like this one below in a few months . :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWivZEtH6-c&feature=related

Or is there a similar monitor that's on sale for games?

EDIT : Do I need a separate sound card ?? I may connect to a 7.1 speaker for watching movies.
