Has to be Plants v Zombies for me. I love Batman and Borderlands, but PvZ is the one game I'd happily return to at any time for either a quick ten minutes or a two-hour marathon. It's so simple yet so addictive, and done with so much humour and style that it deserves victory.

Having said that, I'm still yet to play Dragon Age and Modern Warfare 2 - I'm sure they'll have me crying salty geek tears of joy when I finally grab some free time and try them out.

Oh, and Felix - you've missed out the game that received the most attention of all this year - Farming Simulator 2009. Come on, what's that all about?

Hah, you would like that wouldnt you? That game is becoming the Macbeth of the gaming world. You mustnt mention its name or it will rise up and sit atop our review charts forever. Just talking about it now is probably making people curious...ssshhh

Dragon Age over here. It's exactly what I needed - a beardy, story-driven RPG. I'd been floundering around in open-ended worlds for too long and, as much as I enjoy them, I wanted a bit more focus. I suppose I wanted Baldur's Gate 3.

And I got it. Astounding game and best of the year in my oh-so-humble opinion.

Prototype was this year? :o Crumbs! It feels like forever and a half ago!

For me it's a toss-up between Plants Vs Zombies and Dragon Age and ultimately I think the only thing that separates them is longevity. PVZ is a wonderful game and I played it solidly for days with a big, stupid grin on my face but Dragon Age had me for the best part of a month; to the extent that it threatened to become a lifestyle. I still want more too!

The gents at Bioware have my vote, and my first born if they so wish.

I'm not sure there was an exceptional standout game in 2009. I went for MW2.

Oh and all you Dragon Age fans are going to be kicking yourselves when you remember what a good RPG looks like in 2010 when Mass Effect 2 comes out.

I chose Borderlands. I found it very enjoyable and the multiplayer aspect is very entertaining. I did enjoy Modern Warfare 2 but a couple of things bothered me. First of all the game is just too short. And secondly, there were some areas of the game that were just too punishing. I didn't enjoy having to play the same section five times before having to move on!

Looks like Dragon Age is the clear winner. Considering how much DLC is coming out for it, I'm not sure I've got the time to do it justice, but I'll try to pick it up at some point and give it a try out. It'll ease the pain of Diablo III being delayed until 2030.

At least by then games will probably be mind-controlled, because I'm expecting arthritis to cripple my limbs in the next decade or so. Especially after playing Alien Shooter.

I should really put all my pennies in a jar and see if I have enough to exchange them for DAO.
