GPU Temps

Postby EaglePhoenix » Thu Aug 02, 2012 4:38 pm

I finally build my rig, but i'm now wondering if my gpu is running at a too high temperature. I also wonder how come it runs at this high temp.

I'm having the Corsair 500R Black Case, which got 2 fans in front, 1 giant fan on the side, and a fan at the top-back. The inside also leaves ample room for air movement, since most of the cables are behind the left side panel. My CPU got a new cooler (HyperMaster Evo 212, latest version) and runs at 36C/94F most of the time and when playing games it's at a max of 45C/F (which is fine i guess), My MOBO temps hardly ever go past 38C. So that's not much heat that can infect the GPU.

My gpu is a Zotac Nvidia GTX 670 2GB NOT AMP! version - which came with what i think is a stock cooler.
Idle, the temperature is at 35°C, but when I play a game it goes up rather fast to 76..79..sometimes even 82C. Though, it seems to stabilize at that point and never goes beyond 81-82C.
The moment i pauze the game or minimize to desktop, the temp immediately drops down to 4xC in just a few seconds.

Now I'm wondering, is that an OK temperature?
Image Not the BEST cable management i could get, but i jammed my power cable into the MOBO first and only realized I could get that one behind the panel as well..only it was too tight in the mobo I was scared to break something while trying to get it back out so ..yeah.

p.s.: hopefully i didn't post this twice since my first topic didn't show up somehow - i'm not sure if i did something wrong, it lagged behind or was just a server fault

1st of all check the exact temperature of your GPU while playing a game by my Tutorial.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNcr77TLb5c&feature=plcp

Once you find exact. then if it's below 85C then nothing to worry. i know while gaming Temp instantly goes up then at minimize instantly down. nothing to worry for instantly temp. just worry about your gpu don't cross its limit. OFFICIALLY its MAX TEMPERATURE IS 97C. but for long life it should not cross 85C Hardly 88C. So check it.

Any Help! Feel free to ask :)

I was using a similar program called GPU Temp, but the one you've provided, offers a lot more options - which is great. Thanks, i'll surely test it out.

I do play all my games on Ultra settings, incl. physX on games such as Shogun 2, Mafia 2 etc.

Edit: Shogun 2 Ultra settings after aprox 1h gaming:

Max Temp: 80.0
Max Fan Speed: 57% at max 2160 RPM

That temp is not too high.

I use msi afterburner to set up a custom fan profile to get my fan to higher rpm and a cooler gpu.
