OCZ Vertex 4, Samsung 830, Crucial M4(all 256GB)

Hello everyone.

I recently bought a SSD OCZ Vertex 4 256GB, but it died not some time ago(it simply stopped working). Got a chance of replacement, but since it was out of stock got the chance to get another model(i can give the difference in $)

My possible list to get another is this one:

  • OCZ Vertex 4 256GB
  • Samsung 830 256GB
  • Crucial M4 256GB

This is the list of the unavailable models/brands at the retailer:
  • Corsair
  • Intel
  • Plextor

I simply have no idea of which one to get. Forums over all the interweb says that one is better and trash the other, each one were either god-made or trashed without piety(ok ok, wasn't as hard as that, but you get the idea)

Then you go to see the benchmark of all, in various websites. Every-single-one shows either medium or good performance between themselves. And yes, in some benchmarks one is above other.

Then now, vertex 4 got a new firmware update that gives up even more power. I really like to google about these information instead of posting, but if you do not have the right data/result, it is annoying.

I know that vertex 3 had a lot of issues, but since their "fusion" with Indilinx, it looks like it got better, and even better with the new firmware rolled out this month. My issue was particular, i think it arrived ADOA(almost dead on arrival)

Which one to get, anyone have any idea? Please give your opinions/experience.

I'd post the reviews that i found across the web from famous/not-so-much but i didn't knew if i could or not..

Thanks for any information.

Honestly I would probably go with the cheapest of the three. There isn't going to be much performance difference. Reliability should be pretty good, I think you got unlucky with the Vertex 4. I have an OCZ agility 3 and it has been great for me. On my favorite tech review site the SSD guy loves the 830 right now and the M4 has been a steady presence in the SSD world for a while.

I'm curious what is the price difference between all three?

Thanks i might go with the cheapest one then..

Here are the value:

Samsung 830: 209USD
Vertex 4: 219USD
Crucial M4: 209USD

Hmm... here are the manufacturer specs:

Samsung:
Sequential Write Speed: 400MB/s
Random: 30K IOPS
Sequential Read Speed: 520MB/s
Random: 80K IOPS

Vertex:
Read Speed Sequential: 560 MBps
Random 4k IOPS: 90,000 IOPS
Write Speed Sequential: 510 MBps
Random 4k IOPS: 85,000 IOPS

Crucial:
Sequential Read: Up to 500 MBps(SATA 6 Gbps)
Sequential Write: Up to 260 MBps (SATA 6 Gbps) [But i think that the seller misspelled it because in other site shows 415]
Random 4k Read: Up to 45,000 IOPS
Random 4k Write: Up to 50,000 IOPS

Thanks..

In that case I would go with the 830 just because it is new tech than the M4. Either way you can't go wrong with any of them.

I have 64gb version of samsung 830 and I am happy, because I know, that I have bought very well - so I am voting for the samsung ;)
My SSD performs as promised by those data - I did many benchmarks and simply it was fantastic - Win 7 loads at about 10-12 seconds after half a year...

Thanks TherealYeno, devilek for the information/suggestions =) i might go for the samsung yes then.

Thanks a lot!

EDIT: whichever i get, i'll post the benchmark results for the others to see; Waiting for a new notebook from the same supplier, so it is possible that i lower the storage in exchange of computing power =)
