building a gaming pc on a budget

Postby sinky247 » Sun Sep 04, 2011 2:47 pm

Hi all :D
I want to build a decent gaming PC and have around £650 to spend and want to get the best bang for ma bucks.I have salvaged 2x 500 gig sata drive, dvd drive and sound card from my old system.

I have Already bought this case -Corsair Graphite 600T Midi Tower Case - Limited Edition White
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu ... =CA-043-CS

with my £650 budget I need (mobo ,cpu ram -£400 ish) (gpu-£200 ish) (psu-50 ish)
I was looking at these overclocked bundles

- CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K 3.30GHz @ 4.40GHz Sandybridge CPU
- Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (default choice)
- RAM: Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel
- Cooler: Corsair A50 CPU Cooler
£353.18- with extra 4 ram £363.97
upgraded mobo Gigabyte to Z68XP-UD £407.98

CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz @ 4.40GHz Sandybridge CPU
- Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P Intel Z68 (default choice)
- RAM: Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel
- Cooler: Corsair A50 CPU Cooler
£437.57

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.80GHz @ 3.80GHz
- Motherboard: Asus Crosshair IV Formula AMD 890FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard (Upgrade Options available)
- RAM: Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel
- Cooler: Corsair A50 CPU Cooler
£359.98 with extra 4 gig ram -£369.98 with upgraded mobo Asus Crosshair IV Formula AMD 990FX- £434.99

I don,t know what combination to go for ,should I upgrade my extra ramto 8 gig? is 4 gig enough for games nowadays?or should I just use the extra cash and put it towards a better gpu.If i go for the i7 package i have less money for gpu and cant afford to get ram upgrade.if I get i5 and 8gig ram with no mobo upgrade i will have between 240-240 for gpu .
Can anyone recommend a good gpu that price range?there,s too much choice and am no expert thanks :D

The i5 2500k and i7 2600k is the best. The i7 2600k outperforms the i5 2500k but you won't notice it now. So it depends on what you want and what gpu you want. You're on a budget so I would say i5 2500k and then you have more to spend on a decent gpu. If you had the money, I would say decent gpu and i7 2600k.

yeah think i,ll go with the 2500k i5 then with 8gig ram

that leaves me 230-250 for a gpu ,which puts me in 560gtx-57gtx price range
Can you you recommend a gpu
thanks for reply :D

If you are ati/amd fan, I suggest 6970 or Nvidia 560ti oc or 570. I am not sure what the prices are. But If you can get better than that, go for it.

Think I can just about manage to get one of these card at a push ,which brings me a little over my £650 budget.would rather stick to nvidia cards as I,m planning to get a 3d monitor eventually and try out some 3d vision games

Am tempted to get the MSI GeForce GTX 570 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition .
The more I look the more my budget goes up ! with this card I will spend £690 total ,can live with that.
I guess my last question is will my overclocked i5 and this gpu, 2xsata,dvd drive run ok with a Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 650W V2 High Performance '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply?

its 650 80+ that means you can actually squeeze the 700-750W from it so even on super load while running every game plus every demanding software the Watts will only get up to 6xx , so youre just fine.
btw i say take a bullet and get the twin frozr , they got a mean a*s coooling.

I have the msi gtx 570 ref model. That twin frozR III is very good! Good choice, because its fast and excellent cooling. And if you look at the price diff, not that bad.
