i have a gt 220 from my pc now, but it is good enough for my gaming but do i need the thermal paste?

Its always good to have.. Im running without mainly because i didnt assemble my computer, someone else did. I dont see a problem going without and putting it if you have temperature issues later on...

Yes you need thermal paste. Typically the stock heat sink has some applied so you just have to stick it on. Its pretty easy to do though.

You'll want to with a new mobo otherwise you can risk some corruption.
