looking to upgrade graphics card

Postby Snipershark » Wed Feb 29, 2012 8:40 am

yeah, I'm looking to upgrade my PCs built in Nvidia 9100 graphics card, and im on a real low budget £50 ish, and I was looking at either getting :
the Nvidia geforce 9600 gt 1Gb,
the Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+,
or the GeForce GTS 450

however that GTS450 would be really pushing my budget, and i'd prefer to buy a cheaper one, I can currently play TF2 fine and most of my other games, but my graphics card wont play saints row 3, which i was looking at getting, and im not sure about Dragon Age 2, another i was looking at getting, but yeah I'm looking to upgrade as cheap as possible, and to me highest graphics aren't everything, I often play games on low to medium graphics and dont see much difference between that and high so, yeah any info someone can give would be helpful, and i'm open to any other suggestions you people can offer cos u probs know more than me, however if you list anything thats like double my budget or say "up your budget and come back" I'll ignore you

i think that getting the 9xxx series cards are a big mistake. overpriced old tech that will die bery soon! the 450 is a great and it will give you all the performance you need. a friend of myn has a 450 and is able to play pretty much anything on high settings and that card is not noisy at all. but ofcourse i would much prefer to go with one of the cards reaper posted but thats your decision :D

I said, my max budget is £50, that £63 one was a price i would be willing to pay at maximum ((and that was the 450 one))
however im thinking of going for the 9600GT because i've been told that it can play battlefield 3 on medium graphics flawlessly, and it only costs £30 off of ebay lol

just so u know reaper, I can't afford any of those, and im not looking to go with radeon because i've heard from people and a very close friend that they have a lot of trouble with the graphical drivers on them lol, so the only one of them that looked any good was that EVGA GeForce GTS 450 1024MB one

but like I said, I'm not really a hardcore gamer, and my pc is about 4 years old, I just wanted to upgrade its built in GeForce 9100 graphics card that it came with lol

well then you heard incorrect.and as a radeon user i can vouch for them being great cards and there driver support arent perfect but there still very good.
as the 9600GT running bf3 on medium details flawlessly is again incorrect, the 6770 struggles in medium high details so the 9600 has no chance. and the 450 is worth the extra 20-30 bucks

if I could afford that extra £20-30, trust me, I would, however a budget isnt called a budget because you can afford more..... I might make a dif thread listing my pcs specs and see what anyone can offer for an upgrade to the 9100, cos currently its rating 1 on the game pages thing :S

you said in your second topic that your budget is around 60euro so that means going for the 450 is only 3 euros over your budget so i dont see any reason skipping on it . i dont think you can get anything better in that price range and anything lower will be just a waste because they will have problems running bf3 likeyou wanted to .

here's a video of the 9600 GT running saints row on low details ,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PNsai8Mqr4
the dude who posted this says that its playable but is fps is around 25-30 which means it drops from time to time and it becomes unplayable. so you decide if you want to buy a card that can barely run the only game you wanted on low or spend the extra 20-30 pouns and get a card that will max it out.
your money your decision.
