$1400 to spend on a new gaming laptop..Ideas?

So soon I will have $1400 to spend on a new gaming laptop...maybe more.

But I really want to try to meet that price point. (mainly because I want to buy a new tablet too.. .)

I'm not new to the PC gaming market, but haven't gone out for a gaming LAPTOP in some time.
So I turn to the forums for help and direction. Like digital Yoda's. But without the grammar issues.


I want the machine to be able to run games like Starcraft 2 and Dawn of War 2, as those are my main PC gaming genre staples.



But I want to really max the machine to be great bang for buck quality.

Say for some new recently released military shooters or Skyrim...Diablo..etc..

Yeah, kind of in the same boat with you. I know how to read the spec and gather info of coarse. But sometimes you just want some old fashion know how from other gamers to get the best choice.

are you looking for a specific model or a generel idea?? also are you okay to wait some time because nvidia are now releasing gtx 580m which is going to be the strongest laptop GPU (the same strengh as a gtx 560 ti) so that could be the best choice in the gaming laptops genre

You know, looking into that, waiting might be a much better route. Even with some hard drive prices going up soon. (depending on what you read)

And as for brand...Im not looking to get an Alienware, while they just seep with coolness, The pricing can offset what I get. Need to shop around for the best prices once I get the mind of what right parts I can and cant do without.

An I7 seems to be a natural choice for process power..but I would like to hear alts to this if anyone has a better grasp on it.

i7 are great and with the prices of sandybridge i7 they became much more available for normal people ,
also dont run and buy the pc right now because were realy close to december and the holidays season so im guessing with those blackfriday sales you could get a nice i7 with gt570m (or a 580m if its released already)

HP Pavilion dv6-6b51nr Notebook PC, dark umber aluminum $1,149 is the best laptop under $1,400 for you in my opinion if you liked my suggestion then go for it...

I'm gonna caution you on getting an HP laptop, those things have an extra feature that isn't mentioned. The openGL will not work at all with dedicated cards, HP laptops, learned from personal experience. Buyer beware.

With that budget you should be able to get an i7 with at least a high-end GPU.
I recommend:
Any i7 with:
1 - GeForce GTX 660M
2 - GeForce GTX 570M
3 - GeForce GTX 580M (with a lot of luck)

For those games will also be fine:
4 - GeForce GT 650M (which can be OC to GTX 660M with proper cooling!)
5 - GeForce GTX 560M (this is probably the easiest to find with that price)

I don't recommend any AMD mobile GPU. 90% of them are renames and have no driver support whatsoever by AMD. I would recommend Radeon HD 7970M which would allow you to play ALL games at high settings (high, not ultra) but it's out of your price range and probably only available on 2000€ alienware laptops.
