Is this a decent rig for video editing and gaming? Upgrades?

Postby RoZeTM » Tue May 03, 2011 12:37 pm

Ok, lets get right into it, my rig :

CPU - Core i3-540 3.06GHz
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=46473

GFX CARD - ATI HD 4670 1GB DDR3 PciXpress HIS
http://www.hisdigital.com/un/product2-476.shtml

RAM - 2 MODULES/STICKS OF "KINGSTON DDR3 2GB-1333" Making it 4GB in total.

MOTHERBOARD - ASUS P7H55-M LX
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_ ... /P7H55M_LX

Is this a decent rig for video editing and gaming ?
I'm thinking of upgrading my video card to a HIS 5770 HD 1GB, thats like my budget, thats what I can afford, stuff like that card or something like a NVIDIA GTX 460. Getting me ?

Also please tell me, this won't be a bottleneck right ?

And will my video card be able to run future games like BF 3 ?
And can my video card run bulletstorm ?

I've checked the game-debate reqs. And my Video Card flunks the recommended, But can I play the games on Low to Med. Settings ?

Thank you, All help is appreciated, Waiting for replies :)

For video editing would be better 4-core CPU.
GTX 460 is better than HD 5770 ;) But power need will be higher (the difference will be about 100W (4670->gtx 460))
Bulletstorm should work fine with 4670 (I have 5670 and it is good)
For GTX 460 would be better mentioned quad core CPU ;)

Ahan, Although I've seen Dual Cores like the i3 (Which have hyper threading) handling gfx cards like GTX 460 because they can handle the data fine, I would really like to know from you why a quad core would be better for a GTX 460. Besides that, There isn't much difference between the prices between both cards, should I get GTX 460 then ?

Prices are different in different countries ;) If you could have a similar price, definitelly buy the 460 GTX ;)
Some games can use 4-core and in the future it will be more often...but also dual core with gtx 460 will be very good :-) (for example GTA IV can use 4-core and results with it are much better)

If you like nVidia GPUs i recommend the GTS 450 1gb, or if you'd like ATI i recommend the HD 5750 1gb for dual core processors'. As devilek said the GTX 460 is better than all of these cards but it needs more power (160W).
Yes for GTX 460 will be better with quad core, mb intel core 2 Quad or Athlon/Phenom/Opteron X4 or other CPU. but for your cpu best is the GTS 450. It's your choice ;)

A very good dual core CPU will work fine with gtx460 especially if overclocked. But thats just for games. But as you are buying a new system better try a quad core like Core-i5 2500k.
