Which graphic card to get for gaming?

Postby Hellfire » Sat Dec 04, 2010 11:59 am

I'm looking for a graphic card that can run all games on high quality with all AA-stuff enabled :)
Oh yes, and I can afford up to 300 dollars :)

My system spec: AMD Athlon X2 260 @ 3.2 Ghz
4 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1333 Mhz
ASUS EAH 4650 1 GB VRAM
WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE 64-bit

With this price, you can go with Ati/AMD HD 5850/6850/6870 or nvidia gtx 460/470. I think that Ati/Amd will be better in this case.. On the other hand, your processor is not good enough for these cards ;-)

Very powerful system. It will work very fine with the upcoming gtx 570 so I will recommend you to wait some time until its release. If you want to buy something right now gtx 475 will be a good choice.

Jmaster: I know, that you love nvidia cards but GTX 475..are you serious? That chip (first generation Fermi heating crap??) isnt good at all.
1. Wait until GTX 570 will be released (next week)
2. Buy AMD Radeon HD 6870/6850 because these cards are very very good with many features and low power consumption ;)

I just mention gtx475 as an option for buying right now.I totally agree with gtx570.I rejected although Amd 5770 because of them having only 128 bit.If i were Hellfire I would certainly wait until the departure of GTX475.I believe he shouldnt rush a decision buying neither gtx475 neither 6870or 6850.6870 and 6850 are the cards I would prefer to buy right now. They are a bit expensive and I think it is best to wait and give a liitle more money to buy gtx570.

I know, but I'm not ready to give 300 dollars for a graphic card to find out that I need a stronger CPU to support it. :)

Hellfire: I read news about hardware/computers for 8 years, also I have built many computers and I am just saying taht your processor is not able to bring enough data to those graphics card your are willing to buy. Simple idea..you have processor which is costing about 75dollars and you want to buy graphics card for 300dollars...not good idea for well-balanced system.
One month ago, I have assembled computer with Core i7 920 and radeon HD 5850...you want to buy as strong graphics card as HD 5850 is, but your CPU is 5 times worse than Core i7.

Simply buy HD 6850 or GTX 460...I think these cards can fit your system well ;) Anything stronger will be wasting money for nothing ;)

@ devilek: Then why did you say I should wait for GTX 570 which is not even released yet? Shouldn't that graphic card supposed to be too demanding for my CPU? :)
