The 6870 is a way too expensive (and fast) card. That's the kind of money i would spend in November for my new PC's card. Right now I am looking for inexpensive cards with a GameDebate score of 7, maybe 8 (like the rest of my rig).

Maybe look at a 5750 or a 5770. I think those are in your range and don't cost too much.

Go for hd 6850 1gb the cheapest high-end gpu according to me. You'll never face any problem related to graphics with that gpu for next 2 years. For current games you can play smoothly most of the games but your cpu can't stand for next 1 year for future games.

but the HD5770 needs less power then the GTX460. Otherwise I agree with devilek, the gtx460 is better ;)

Be clever
1st Question where in the World are you?
2nd Question What is your Absolute Budget?

Reasons for Question here in australia you could do a good upgrade of both your GPU and CPU for around $300 give or take for postage

So say a AMD 955 BE 3.2Ghz stock can be Overclocked to 3.4, 3.6Ghz with the stock cooler or 4.0Ghz easy with aftermarket cooler

And a XFX Radeon HD5770 XXX Overclocked Video Card

Price Total =$317AUD i am in Queensland BTW ps i am also a PC Builder

www.ragencomputers.yolasite.com

I have both these parts in my PC and run all the latest games on High Settings up onto a 42 Inch Monitor
Yes before anyone asks it is also my TV

It doesn't matter what brand it is, the top specs of the GPU are the Texel rate, Memory Bandwith and pixel rate.
In this case the XFX, Asus, Sapphire, MSI, Gigabyte, Galaxy ... they just upgrate the Core speed, the memory, shader speed (Not available for ATi), the texture maping and other

PS:This is acording to Tom's Hardware test chart rig, look it up www.hwcompare.com
