Should I upgrade my CPU

Postby OpticalxLX3 » Fri Jun 03, 2011 3:09 pm

Hi,

Currently i have a Q8300 overlocked to 2.7Ghz(Thats not much I know  ) It's good enough for me,but I have the opportunity to upgrade to a AMDx4 955 or a I3 2100.Should I do it or not?

(And if you didn't already get it I use my computer mostly to play games, and I'm sorry for spelling mistakes or incorrect sentences English is not my primary language)

i3 is not native quad-core so I cant recommed it and phenom X4 955 is good but it needs 125W power and also it is very old chip. Something like new sandy bridge CPU or upcoming Bulldozer will be better ;)
For Phenom you have to change whole motherboard..that is not good.
 Wait for better parts ;)

Alpha31: Core i3 540 is a native dual core CPU with HT (hyperthreading) that means 4 logical cores which are worse than native quad-core for example Phenom or Core i5

Opti.. : I think that mentioned options are wasting of money. You will have to buy motherboard(I think...that Core i3 is not compatible with your old one...but you didnt write it here so I am only guessing) CPU and maybe ram memory (dont know your type). And you will get only small advantage in very small range of games...

So buy something like Core i5 at least or wait for new Bulldozer CPUs... ;)
