Ideally I'd like to spend between $300-$350. What do you think I could get for that and where would you suggest doing the buying?

Lots of people use newegg.com.
Check out the gtx 570 or the ati 6970. Both between 300 - 350$ and both are real good cards. The 6970 does better in higher resolutions and supports more monitors, but the gtx 570 is a bit better with dx11 tesselation. One third of games the 6970 wins, one third the 570 wins and the last third is a draw. So essentially they are the same.

Here are some benchmarks:

Browse down to the graph in this next one:

So this just gives you an idea.

PS: I have a gtx 570 and potnik has a 6970...in BF3 beta we get around the same performance.

Excellent. I would be more interested in the nvidia card. On NCIX they have two different GTX 570 cards and I'm unsure as to what the differences are between them. I'll post the links below.

Which card would make for a better investment?

The one is an reference msi 570 like mine. And the other is an evga. Both are real good. It is just a about what brand you prefer.

BUT might I suggest you this one rather
http://ncix.com/products/?sku=59632&vpn ... FMicroStar

It is an msi overclocked twin frozr II.
The twin Frozr msi cards have much better cooling than the other two you mentioned and this one also overclocked so it is better than the normal 570's.

ATI 6870 is well in that limit. The gtx 560ti and the 6950 is better options but they are out of your budget.

It is ok...I would rather go for the 6870. It is much better than the 6770 in my opinion and you can play future games for much longer than 6770.
