Can I run it on high

Postby gregleblanc » Fri Oct 14, 2011 2:09 pm

Hey guys,
I don't know much about processors, and I want to be able to run the new battlefield 3 game on high

My current specs

Intel core i3 530 @2.93GHz
8 Gigs of ddr3 ram
Asus GTX 570

And im running vista home basic 64-bit..

Now after trying the battlefield 3 beta I was obviously disappointed in my computer not being able to run it very well at all, SO i decided i probably should upgrade my processor. I ordered the i5 650 @ 3.2GHz, now i didn't put down a deposit on this so I'm not obligated to buy it haha but I just wanted to know if you guys think I would be able to run things on high, or is it necessary to get an even better processor?

I realize that the battlefield 3 beta was un-optimized but still..
Really would appreciate your guys feed back!

the i5 650 is very nice , but isnt it smarter to get the i5 750/760?? it doesnt cost that much more and you'l get a sugnificent performance boost from the extra 2 cores.

I have a i5 650 and gtx 570. It is good, but it is a useless upgrade from i3 dual to i5 dual....And what are you paying for that cpu? You can probably get an am3+ mobo and amd quad core for the price of that i5 650. Here those i5 650's are more expensive than a i5 2500k.

So if you only want to upgrade you cpu and not your mobo, get a i5 760 or i7 870. I would only go for the i7 870. I wouldn't even go for the i5 760....

Would I be able to get say the i5 2400k? I don't know why I wouldn't be able to.
In case it matters my mobo is a P7P55-M

Your mobo is socket 1156. So you can only get i5 650, i5 660, i5 661, i5 750, i5 760, i7 860, i7 870, i7 875k, i7 880.....those are socket 1156 cpu's. There are more 1156 cpu's out there but I can't name them all!

The i5 2xxx series are socket 1155. So you will need a new mobo for those cpu's. The i7 2xxx series is also socket 1155.

I would like an i7 880, it will be a massive improvement on what I have now....but they are so expensive that I can rather get an i5 2500k. Only way for me to get an i7 880, is to get it for free, otherwise will have to wait a few years to afford a new pc.

BF3 should have run decently on your rig. Did you update the drivers for your GFX while playing the beta?
