Failing HDD as a storgae drive

Postby SauceBoss » Tue Nov 29, 2011 7:03 pm

so i have a dieing HDD(random shutdowns and BSOD, i think i have some bad sectors too, also i hear scratching sounds from the hdd AKA sound of death ) and with the current prices of HDD i dont think i can afford or its smart to buy an HDD right now , so im thinking aobut getting a nice 60-80 GB SSD and to use it as main boot drive . my question is : if i put thee failing drive as a secondry storage drive will that damage my pc in any way ,i mean will i suffer from the same problems when the windows is installed on a perfectly good drive.

No, no problems at all, unless you decide to use your HDD for tasks.

But if that storage drive finally dies, you'll lose all you stuff. Is that a risk you are willing to take?

its mostly ouut-dated games and shows i dont watch any more... tahts why i find 40 gb mroe then enough for me (windows 7+bf3 + mw3 when ill get it) .
btw ive found somebody who sells(second hand) intel x25-m 80GB SSD in a realy affordable price, so my question is if its smart to buy an ssd from a second hand because i heard that ssd's have limited life duration so buying it from some 1 can surely shorten its life span

p.s offtopic question . im in the market for a gaming mouse and with the black-friday sales ive seen two mouses i like and they are quite within my budget . the Razer DeathAdder or the Logitech G500 (note that the g500 is 15 dollars more so take that into consideration too :) ) which one is better? im not too hardware freak i just want the all surface thingy(the laser that works on all of he surfaces ) the deathadder and logitech has and the nice amount of DPI those 2 offer

It really depends on how much the other guy has used the SSD. Its on the loading I believe but the writing to the disk. I'm not 100% sure on this but I do know how much he has used it, and generally if he was just a typical user it is not really an issue.

Also start a separate thread for your mouse question so we can keep things straight.

i think you can check for how long the drive was in use in the S.M.A.R.t section in the bios but im not certain it works with ssd(i know for certain it works with HDD) so ill jsut ask him and hope his an honest person.

btw in which section to open the mouse question?? because i dont realy think its a system component question

I have verbatim rapier v1. Love that mouse. But it is a cheap gaming mouse, not top of the range.
