Is the Gigabyte GTX 560 OC Edition worth the investment?

Postby hangell » Mon Jan 16, 2012 4:41 pm

Hi everyone

My Graphics card just died on me Geforce 8500GT, I got around 3 years out of it (bought when COD MW came out) now I am looking to upgrade.
My initial idea was to buy a run of the mill around £30 card just to keep me going until the summer when I will be playing games more, but I am unable to find a card that matches or just beats my old card for that price the nearest i have found is £50, but then that would be £50 now then another £120-£150 in the summer for a proper gaming card which = nearly £200 overall so I thought about doing it in one go.
The game I would like to play most is Battlefield 3 so I saw the recommended card is the GTX 560 but is that a good card that will last me a good while or is there a better alternative out there, my limit is around £150 although that is flexible if the reason is good.

Many thanks

The HD 6870 is £20 cheaper, why is it a better alternative then?

Well I have not got a clue about Video cards, basically what I looked for was the cheapest card that would play BF3, so if anyone has any other recommendations then I would be very grateful to hear them as I don't fancy getting ripped off for anything overpriced or overzealous.

The difference between the 560 OC and the 6870 is small ....I would go with the 6870 or an 6870 OC. But I agree with them16master, buy a 560ti or better or 6950 or better.

Both the 6950 and 560ti are the recommended card for BF3, the price between them is minimal, 6950 is £197 and the 560ti is £192, so basically which one should I go for in regards as to which one will last me the longest, ie not have to replace the soonest bearing in mind I am not a hardcore gamer the last game I bought was MW2 but I do like to game every now and then in between assignments?
Thanks

Like the price, the performance difference is unnoticable. Both perform almost the same, fps here and there depending on the game. Slight changes depending on the manufacturer aswell, cooling, noise etc. Go whichever you want its a good decision bothways.

but first check you PSU can support it , the 6950 is better power consumption wise so if you got a low watt psu you should be looking at 6850/6870 (if you got under 400-450W psu).
also a huge bottleneck can be youre cpu so if you dont mind telling us what cpu you got that would be great:)

CPU is phenom II x 4 965 PSU is too low I just realised but more worrying is news that my budget might be slashed to around £100 so I may have to rethink the card plans and forget playing BF3, should know budget plans by tonight, out of interest how much would a card capable of playing bad company 2 set me back out of interest?
