If you are only going to upgrape cpu and not mobo and ram, you must look for a socket 775 quad core. Here in SA it is more expensive to buy older cpu than just get a new socket 1155 mobo, cpu and ddr3 ram. Maybe sell your old stuff and try to do a decent upgrade.

Those games shouldn't crash the machine. Are all your drivers up to date?

I suggest a format and reinstallation of everything you need. ONLY what you need. That CPU should run all those games like yeno said. But if you want to upgrade...quad core is the way to go.

Well, if you have the money for a small upgrade, I would do both. A decent 775 socket quad will last you a while. A format will clear up other issues.

That would be a waste of money.

Yes, that would be a waste of money. You won't see any performance increase....maybe a few fps, but like the bare minimum of an increase. I would go quad all the way and never look back. Even if it means selling my organs on the black market!
