Two Graphics Cards?

Postby thebookster » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:02 pm

So, I have a <1 yr old computer, a Lenovo T420 ThinkPad with Windows 7. According to the computer, it has two graphics cards: an NVidia NVS 4200M and "Intel HD Graphics Family" (This is in Device Manger > Display Adapters). When I activate CPU-Z, it says I have one graphics card, an "Intel HD Graphics 3000 (GT2+)". I'm guessing that's the "Intel HD Graphics Family", but what about the NVidia card? Does anyone know how Lenovo notebooks work?

And, if it does indeed have two graphics cards, how would I update my gamer profile?

From what I have seen with notebooks, you have an integrated graphics card on your mainboard (Intel HD Graphics 3000), and then you have a discrete business graphics card (NVS 4200M). The discrete graphics card will be the only one running when doing something like gaming, which it isn't designed for. The integrated graphics just sit at idle unless you are using power save mode. The two graphics "chips" do not run like crossfire would in a desktop.
