Buying a gaming laptop need some help.

Postby leaube » Mon Jun 18, 2012 7:01 pm

Ok so im looking to buy a gaming laptop and ive found a few that i like a lot but i have some questions,

The laptop im looking to get has an i7-2670QM 2.2GHz (turbo boost 3.1GHz) a NVIDIA GeForce GT 630m 1GB over clocked to 2GB and 8GB of DDR3 SDRAM 1337MHz.

Ok so the first question i want to know is what games can i run on max setting(excluding shadows),
ive see BF3,Assassins Creed Revelations,Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim played on max settings with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 540m with no lag and 30+fps and i can only assume that the 630m is better since its a later model which should make it better? But on Game Debate it says that it wont run these games on highest settings on either 630m and the 540m so im kind of confused since ive seen it with my own eyes that it can run these games maxed out?

Second question and last, on the laptop description it says the screen is 15.6" and underneath that it says the aspect ratio is 16:9 so does that mean the screen is 16.9" or 15.6"?

Hears the link to the laptop i want to buy : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-Aspire-575 ... 162&sr=8-1

and here : http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006 ... =computers

also here but with a different processor : http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/acer-aspi ... 5-pdt.html

Thanks

Hi,

Concerning your question about your laptop and graphic card compatibility I recommend you to check the following site :

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-G ... 849.0.html

Regarding every graphic card it lists the games that are compatible. The Nvidida 630m should normally be listed.

Regarding your second question, 16:9 is the ratio between the length of your screen and its height. 15.6 mesure the size of the screen, or more precisely its diagonal.

You can have a 15.6 screen with a 4:3 ratio (like old laptop or old TV screen) or 16:9 or even 16:10 ratio...

Hello.
There are many versions of the GeForce GT 630M. The version your laptop appears to have is a renamed GeForce GT 540M. Therefore it performs just like the 630M.
Also, I have the 540M with an i7 on my laptop and I can say for sure: BF3 DOES NOT run on ultra. It barely runs on medium at times.

Hello Buddy i was where you are now not so far ago.And do not buy the laptops with 610m and 630m graphics. What you need is one of these guys, the first 2 models are pronounced for 2011 and 2012 the best performance laptop for the price
Acer Aspire V3-571G-9435
Acer Aspire V3-771G-9875
Acer Aspire AS7750G-9810

The first 2 both have intel I7 3610qm proccesors(we are talking about some serious 3d generation i7,with ivy bridge) and both have cards which are about 50% stronger than the 630 and 70% better than the 610%,The difference is that the first model is 15.6 inch with Nvidia 640m and the second acer is 17 inch with a 650M which is about 15% better than the 640M but considering you will have bigger resolution, results in bigger requirements for games its the same performance on both models, the difference is if you want a 15 inch or a 17 ich laptop. On the other hand the third model is better than both of them but is a more expensive, still very affordable though! The first Model goes around 750 to 790 USD Dollars and the 17 inch around 800-830 Usd Dollars. The third one goes around 950-1000$,online.
Also if you are willing to give about 1150 Usd Dollars and have a beast of a machine than buy this asus.He owns a real gaming Graphic card the GTX 560,now that beast will play on ultra all games currently available!
You can get any of the ASUS G74SX models but i recommend this one ASUS G74SX-NH71! Good luck you won't miss with any of these laptops!

That's a beast but personally I would rather spend the same amount of money on a better desktop and a small notebook to do work on.
