Yeap, they're here folks. The date of release of the new Train Simulator was getting closer and closer but still no system requirements had been officially announced. What we did know was that rigs capable of playing RailWorks 2, the prequel, should also be able to play Train Simulator 2012. Well Train Simulator 2012 system requirements are here now, so let's take a look...
Train Simulator 2012 Recommended System Requirements:
OS: Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7
Processor: 2.8 GHz or faster
Memory: 2.0 GB RAM
Hard disk space: 6.0 GB
Video: 256 MB with Pixel Shader 3.0* (AGP PCIe only)
Sound DirectX: 9.0c compatible
DirectX Version: 9.0c (Included)
Yeap, no video card is suggested but we will make an educated guess so you folks know if you can or can not get your hands on this outstanding Train Simulator.
Note 1: It is said that even though older rigs will be able to play Train Simulator 2012 on the lowest settings, most of the new cool visual features Train Simulator 2012 features will not be compatible and therefore will be disabled by default.
Note 2: Remember that players who have RailWorks 2 will use Train Simulator 2012 as an upgrade/expansion pack. Train Simulator 2012 will replace RailWorks 2 files but all its content and DLC downloaded will still be compatible and there's more...it's FREE for those players!

Really good game. So much realism and the graphics are fantastic. There's a lot to be done with this and the number of addons so far is great.
However, this all does come at a price; the system load is pretty heavy, you're going to need a good system to get this running at 30 fps or more. I did have this working on a basic system with just 2GB RAM and an integrated GPU, but the graphics has to be minimal and choosing any of the new engine technology options was just suicide. But, if you have a powerful system then you really should get this. If you can't play it, then try older games such as Railworks 2 or even go retro with Microsoft Train Simulator (I found this one will work on almost any system).
However, I don't like the lack of options when actually driving a train. You get to choose a train and then it offers you some preset routes/activities. That's great, but what if I want to just choose a route, a starting station, a heading and a consist? But hey, this is just me nitpicking, enjoy!

Good game!

I want this
