Back of the Box

The game consists of dungeon crawling in hostile environments and exploits the tension instilled by risk versus reward game mechanics and penalties upon player death. Dark Souls takes place in an open world environment, with the player able to travel to and from areas and explore various available paths. Dark Souls allows players to light Bonfires, which function as respawn locations. These bonfires also replenish health, magic, and special items like Estus flasks - limited vials that restore health, but also respawn all enemies previously defeated, except for bosses and certain special enemies

Full system requirements for Dark Souls reported on Jun-02-2012

The PC conversion of Dark Souls was championed by staunch PC industry veterans earlier this year, until Namco saw that it would definitely make a lot of people happy should it eventually reach our personal computers.

Well that time is drawing ever nearer and we now have the Dark Souls system requirements, so lets take a look and see what sort of system you might need to run Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition...

Dark Souls System Requirements

OS: Windows XP , Windows Vista, Windows 7, or newer

CPU: 2.6 GHz Dual-Core

GPU RAM: 512MB

RAM: 1GB (XP), 2GB (Vista/7)

HDD: 4GB

DX: 9.0c

OTHER: Multiplayer requires microphone headset support

So there we go. As expected, only a fairly modest PC, by todays standards, is required to run Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition for the PC.

Thanks to Cham0d for getting these details.

The PC version called Dark Souls Prepare To Die Edition is due out on August 24th 2012.

Try to not force very much the GFX. and it's not problem of your rig, is because the optimization of this game for PC is very bad.

Would recommend playing this on anything but PC no matter the settings. HORRIBLY optimized. If you get it for free and wanna try. You might as well max it(as it makes no difference) and the fps will be a roller coaster but barely playable.

you can go far enough as to say that the pc port is bad cause it really is , it provides slim to none graphics options but if you have a pc that can run it you can lock it at 60 fps by tweaking the .ini files and it will be playable

Dark souls 2 is slighly better in that regard

Making this game run smoothly is like trying to make toast by rubbing it between your thighs. Right as things heat up they fall apart. & Both leave a bad taste.

Well dropping the settings dosen't make the unoptimized places run smoother. So taking that and your hardware into acount there should be no differnce for you running it on max against min.

So max it out.

Don't get the game for the 360 0_0 PS3 if at all possible. Frame rate issues plauge the 360's copy of DarkSouls. Actually suffers in the same area's the PC version does.

I don't know how much it slows down in the bad areas on the 360, but on PC it only drops to 30fps from 60 everwhere else (more if your hardware is sub-pare to begin with IE Intel HD 4000 graphics).

All versions of this game including PC are capped at 30FPS. Slight fps issues on 360 but I already bought it for 360 and it's very playable especially compared to PC and it's working fine :) Thanks for the tip though! PS3 is much better
