The latest system requirements News for Final Fantasy XIII
Full system requirements for Final Fantasy XIII reported on Sep-19-2014

Most people would have heard of the Final Fantasy series. Its been going for decades now and Final Fantasy 13 or XIII actually released in 2009 in Japan. Now, five years later, on October 9th, FFXIII is coming to PC. The linearity of this FF title has been a mild sticking point to reviewers of the console versions but this hasn't stop it from being one of the fastest selling editions of the series, enjoying reported sales of over 7 million copies on console versions alone by the end of 2013.

The fast paced RPG has long been anticipated by the PC audience and the release date is within weeks. Speculating what sort of PC the beautiful world of Cocoon needs to present all its colourful imaginings is now moot as we have the full Final Fantasy XIII system requirements on hand. So let's see if you can run FF13 on your computer.

Final Fantasy XIII Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows XP and Service Pack 2 (SP2)
  • CPU: 2GHz Dual Core processor
  • RAM: 1GB of System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 256MB Graphics Memory
  • GPU: NVIDIA Geforce 8 Series/ ATI Radeon HD 2000 series
  • HD: 30GB
  • DX: DirectX 9.0c

Final Fantasy XIII Recommended System Requirements

  • OS: Windows Vista 7 or 8
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad @2.66 GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 @2.8 GHz processor
  • RAM: 1GB of System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 512 MB Graphics Memory
  • GPU: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 460 or AMD Radeon HD 5870
  • DX: DirectX 11

First thing of note is that the minimum requirements for FFXIII are relatively low by today's PC standards. With only a 1GB RAM requirement even for recommended settings, which should certainly open the game up to many PC gamers. The CPU/ GPU recommended requirements for Final Fantasy XIII are a little more substantial, suggesting the beauty of the game but the hardware requirement called for is still a couple of generations old. The hard drive space required is on the large size as well for FFXIII which is expected from a behemoth of an RPG game like this, particularly from a series renowned for its high-quality Pixar-like pre-rendered cut scenes.

As you may have spotted in the news earlier today, the entire Final Fantasy XIII trilogy will be coming to PC and so its fairly safe to presume that each of the other two FFXIII episodes, called FFXIII-2 and Lightning Returns-FFXIII, will also have similar system requirements to this first title. Don't think too hard about the fact that a game which is 13th in a series is also a trilogy, it's a JRPG after all and these titles often come with their own rules. In point of note, there are in fact a staggering 79 games release in the Final Fantasy series at the time of writing, despite the release of Final Fantasy XV next year.

This is all very exciting and we only have a few weeks to go until PC gamers everywhere can immerse themselves in the full Square Enix FFXIII experience. Now while looking forward to this, we can allow ourselves a rekindled faith that one day Final Fantasy X will also arrive on PC, and the rest while we're at it, because it certainly seems we're getting a bit more love from Japanese developers these days. What do you make of these modest system requirements? Do you plan to pick up the trilogy? Let us know!

Sep-19-2014 In an exciting move from Square Enix, the Japanese publisher has confirmed that the entirety of the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy will eventually be making its way over to PC, beginning with Final Fantas...

To add to my comment, i'm aiming for 30fps, not 60, because that's not a necessity to me in a RPG.

No the game isn't that well optimized people with amd cpus and apparently gpus as well seem to suffer the most from constant drops under 60 fps and battles being capped at 30.

When this game was released it was locked at 720p and 30 fps, if this hasn't changed then this isn't really useful for the user. Yes, you can run this relatively to quite smoothly though.

When it was released, it was locked at 30 fps, with cutscenes being the exception. I don't know if it has changed, but if it hasn't, then not sure it is possible.

Final Fantasy XIII runs at 30FPS on consoles (PS3 & XBOX), I don't use Gedosato, I didn't notice that much of a difference between 1080p and 720p on my display. In any case this is a bad port for framerate. I can play at 30FPS, while my GPU
