Back of the Box
In Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, gamers take on the role of Talion, a valiant ranger whose family is slain in front of him the night Sauron and his army return to Mordor, moments before his own life is taken. Resurrected by a Spirit of vengeance and empowered with Wraith abilities, Talion ventures into Mordor and vows to destroy those who have wronged him. Through the course of his personal vendetta, Talion uncovers the truth of the Spirit that compels him, learns the origins of the Rings of Power and ultimately confronts his true nemesis. “In Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, players will explore the dark and very personal theme of vengeance in a world where decisions have a consequence, and those consequences persist even after death,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “The game introduces new gameplay mechanics to the action genre, creating opportunities for emergent and customized gameplay that will be rewarding for players.” Every enemy that players face is a unique individual, differentiated by their personality, strengths and weaknesses. Through the Nemesis System, enemy relationships and characteristics are shaped by player actions and decisions to create personal archenemies that remember and adapt to the player and are distinct to every gameplay session. Gamers are able to craft their own battles, enemies and rewards within the dynamic world that remembers and adapts to their choices, delivering a unique experience to every player.

Full system requirements for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor reported on Apr-07-2014

It's still six months until until Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor invades out PCs, but the devs at Monolith have already seen fit to release the Shadow of Mordor system requirements. In Middle-earth you'll be battling your way through Mordor to uncover the truth of a benevolent spirit, helping you to seek revenge for the murder of your family by Sauron.

The next foray into the realm of Middle-earth is certainly a bit of a looker, but even we weren't expecting these insanely high Middle-earth: Shadow Of Mordor System Requirements...

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Minimum System Requirements

OS: Windows Vista 64-bit

CPU: 2.67 GHz Intel Core i5-750 or 3.4 GHz AMD Phenom II X4 965

RAM: 4GB System Memory

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 or AMD Radeon HD 6950

DX: DirectX 11.0

HDD: 25 GB Free Hard Drive Space

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Recommended System Requirements

OS: Windows 7 64-bit

CPU: 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7-3770 or 4.0 GHz AMD FX-8350

RAM: 8 GB System Memory

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 or AMD Radeon HD 7970

HDD: 40 GB Free Hard Drive Space

Right, where to begin. To say these are insane requirements is an understatement. Shadow of Mordor takes the recently released Watch Dogs system requirements and gives them a good kicking. The minimum processor requirements for Middle-earth alone are enough to make a grown man weep, demanding quad-core processors at the least, as well as some pretty tasty graphics cards.

Moving on to the recommended system requirements for Shadow of Mordor, things get even more interesting. The two processors have some of the highest-rated benchmarks in the entirety of the GD database, with the i7-3770 setting you back $279.99 as I write this. Once again we're seeing 8GB of RAM rearing its head, this looks to be a commonplace occurrence now, with many of the AAA titles demanding it. If you haven't invested in an extra stick of memory yet, now's as good a time as any.

The GPU requirements for Shadow of Mordor meanwhile are once again sky-high, asking for top-of-the-line graphics cards in the shape of the GeForce GTX 670 and the Radeon HD 7970. Both the CPU and GPU requirements hit the maximum 10/10 on the GD hardware score, with the memory bring up the rear with 9/10.

If you want Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor looking its finest then it's probably best to get upgrading!

Remember, you can always check out how well your PC can run the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Requirements here, where you can check benchmarking and performance from other users.

Compare your graphics card to the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor benchmark chart.

What do you make of these absolutely huge Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor requirements?

Shadow of Mordor is also releasing on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, do you think this may be a case of poor Shadow of Mordor PC optimisation?

I have a 60hz monitor and am getting terrible screen tearing on top of the forge towers - and only there. All other areas are fine.

Will setting the frame cap to 60 using the in-game limiter cause the same fps drop problems as vsync?

Otherwise runs fine, maxed out with 60-80 fps. No problems except on tower tops.

It looks like real gameplay, the resolution (1024x768?) is probably the reason why the gt 520 and 2 gigs of ram even plays it at all. But i wouldn't recommend playing at these specs as it results in an unplayable average of 24 fps.
