Gaming Performance Comparison
In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 7620G are noticeably better than the AMD Radeon HD 8400.
The Radeon HD 8400 was released over a year more recently than the Radeon HD 7620G, and so the Radeon HD 8400 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games.
The Radeon HD 8400 and the Radeon HD 7620G have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.
The Radeon HD 8400 has 4.3 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Radeon HD 7620G, which means that the memory performance of the Radeon HD 8400 is marginally better than the Radeon HD 7620G.
The Radeon HD 8400 has 128 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 7620G has 384. However, the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 8400 is 50 and the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 7620G is 138. The Radeon HD 7620G having 88 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the Radeon HD 8400 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.
The Radeon HD 8400 requires 25 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 7620G requires 25 Watts. The two GPUs require the same amount of wattage to run. As such, there is no need to worry about which will more significantly affect your yearly electricity bills.

| Mini Review | Radeon HD 8400 is an integrated graphics card on some of the Kabini APUs.
It is based on the Graphics Core Next Architecture and shares the main system memory of up to 800MHz, on a 128-bit memory interface, whereas the memory bandwidth and performance will depend heavily on the laptop configuration.
The codenamed Kalindi Core offers 128 Shader Processing Units, 8 TMUs and 4 ROPs.
Assuming the best combination possible, expect performance similar to an Intel HD 4000 and never below an Intel HD 3000. Thus, the card is only suited for modest 3D games and titles like BF4, AC4 and CoD: Ghosts are unplayable. | | | | Radeon HD 7620G is an integrated GPU on the high-end ULV Trinity CPUs.
It's based on the 32nm Terascale 3 architecture and offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The memory interface will depend on whether or not the laptop's system RAM is dual channelled (128-bit if so, 64-bit, if not) and the operating memory clock can be up to 667MHz (max speed supported by the CPU). The central unit runs at 360MHz and will go up to 497MHz in Turbo Mode. Expect a TDP of up to 25 Watt.
Its performance is slightly above both Intel HD 4000 Graphics and next in series - Radeon HD 7640G, despite the naming, due to the extra Shaders which prove useful in most of today's modern games.
Some of today's modern games can be playable using the Medium preset though the low preset will have to suffice for most of them. Extremely demanding games (e.g. Crysis 3) are most likely unplayable or only playable at 800x600. |
