In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon R9 M395X 4GB are noticeably better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 965M 2GB.

The GTX 965M has a 201 MHz higher core clock speed than the R9 M395X, but the R9 M395X has 64 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 965M. As a result, the R9 M395X exhibits a 33.4 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 965M. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 965M has a 201 MHz higher core clock speed than the R9 M395X and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GTX 965M providing 6.5 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The R9 M395X was released less than a year after the GTX 965M, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

The R9 M395X has 2048 MB more video memory than the GTX 965M, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the R9 M395X also has superior memory performance overall.

The R9 M395X has 80 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 965M, which means that the memory performance of the R9 M395X is much better than the GTX 965M.

The Radeon R9 M395X 4GB has 2048 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 965M 2GB has 1024. However, the actual shader performance of the R9 M395X is 1259 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 965M is 1017. The R9 M395X having 242 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the R9 M395X delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GTX 965M.

The Radeon R9 M395X 4GB requires 125 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 965M 2GB requires 70 Watts. The R9 M395X requires 55 Watts more than the GTX 965M to run. The difference is significant enough that the R9 M395X may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GTX 965M.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Radeon R9 M395X 4GB is a High-End Mobile Graphics Card based on the second revision of the Graphics Core Next Architecture (CGN).

Architecture
Radeon R9 M395X 4GB Features a GPU Codenamed Amethyst XT which is a Third Gen GCN GPU and is identical to the Tonga XT GPU used on the Desktop Radeon R9 380X.
Amethyst XT has 32 Compute Units Unlocked and thus offers 2048 Shader Processing Units, 128 TMUs and 32 ROPs.

GPU
The Central Unit is Clocked at 723MHz.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with fast GDDR5 and Accesses the Frame Buffer through a 256-bit Memory Interface. The Memory Clock Operates at 1250MHz.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to 4GB. Under most circumstances, this only proves useful in certain 3D Games whose Settings Require Large Amounts of Memory.
However, because the GPU itself is too weak to work under other circumstances in which 4GB of Memory are needed - such as 4K Gaming, a Large Frame Buffer is mostly a Gimmick.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 125W, it is suited for very large laptops.

Performance
Radeon R9 M395X 4GB is a Direct Rebrand of Radeon R9 M295X 4GB.
Performance is Comparable to the desktop Radeon R9 280. Therefore, even GeForce GTX 970M is still faster.

System Suggestions
Radeon R9 M395X 4GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080. We recommend a Strong Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
Overview
GeForce GTX 965M 2GB is a Performance Mobile Graphics Card based on the second revision of the Maxwell architecture.

Architecture
GeForce GTX 965M 2GB Equips the GPU Codenamed GM204-N16E-GS which is a Second Gen Maxwell GPU and has 8 SM activated. It offers 1024 Shader Processing Units, 64 TMUs and 32 ROPs.

GPU
The central unit runs at 924MHz and goes up to 950MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with fast GDDR5 and Accesses the Frame Buffer through a 128-bit Memory Interface. The Memory Clock Operates at 1253MHz.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The Frame Buffer was doubled to 2GB. This is adequate for 1080p Gaming in most Games.

Power Consumption
GeForce GTX 965M 2GB has a Rated Board TDP of 50W.

Performance
GeForce GTX 965M 2GB proves to be incredible fast at resolutions up to 1920x1080. In fact, even at 1920x1080 it matches the older GeForce GTX 870M.
Above 1920x1080, GeForce GTX 965M 2GB's performance decreases significantly and becomes further distant from the higher positioned GeForce GTX 970M.
Nevertheless, all modern games should run comfortably at 1080p. It can be said its performance lies somewhere between a desktop GeForce GTX 660 and a Radeon R9 270 which are both powerful Graphics Cards.

System Suggestions
We Recommend a High-End Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
