Radeon HD 7640G Review

Radeon HD 7640G is an integrated GPU on the fast-middle-class Trinity CPUs.
It's based on the 32nm Terascale 3 architecture and offers 256 Shader Processing Units, 16 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The memory interface will depend on whether or not the laptop's system RAM is dual channelled (128-bit if so, 64-bit, if not) and the operating memory clock can be up to 800MHz (max speed supported by the CPU). The central unit runs at 496MHz and will go up to 685MHz in Turbo Mode. Expect a TDP of up to 35 Watt.
Its performance is slightly above Intel HD 4000 Graphics but below previous in series - Radeon HD 7620G, despite the naming, due to the lesser Shaders count which proves useful in most of today's modern games.
Some of today's modern games can be playable using the Medium preset though the low preset will have to suffice for most of them. Extremely demanding games (e.g. Crysis 3) are playable but with reduced frame rates.

Those who are saying that Radeon HD 7640G (A8-4500m APU) can't be replaced are wrong. You can replace to other APU like APU A10-5750M which comes with Radeon HD 8650G.

If I increased the RAM for this GPU, would it make some performance difference ??
I'm planning to get 8gigs kit instead of 6gigs.

P.S I'm experiencing lag due low VRAM memory in "Watch dogs" and "Middle Earth - Shadow of Mordor
Thanks

If you overclock the GPU to 800mhz core clock, it will be the same as the GPU found in the A8-6500 desktop APU.

When I first got this computer, I downloaded this game. It said I could play best on High Settings but when I do go to High Settings or Medium or Low, I only get 30 FPS max and even when I set it to 60 cap, it still doesn't work. Help.

Maybe the V-sync was on, or maybe it meant you could play on high at 30fps

No buddy, this is an integrated laptop's GPU so it's not possible. Some laptops have possibility to use an external GPU but that's way expensive.

thanks, I would be running it at the res on my profile. Would you say it can run most games from 2011 and earlier? I'm fine with low setting as long as it's smooth.

thanks mate! This seems like the best option for me, since I need a new laptop but can only spend $400. Not looking to play any super demanding games, so this ought to do nicely:)
