Radeon HD 7790 Review

Overview
Radeon HD 7790 is a Fast-Middle-Class Graphics Card based on the First Revision of the Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture.

Architecture
The GCN Architecture succeeds the 40nm Terascale Architecture. In addition to being produced with a 28nm Technology, the GCN Architecture adds other Technologies that allow for energy efficiency. For example, ZeroCore Power, a long idle power saving technology, allows the Graphics Cards to shut down by itself when the Monitor is turned off.
GCN also adds Improved Anisotropic Filtering, DirectX 11 Tessellation and the Partially Resident Textures (PRT) Technology, which enables future games to utilize ultra-high resolution textures with the same performance as today's small and often repetitive textures.

GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed Bonaire XT which has 14 Compute Units activated and thus offers 896 Shader Processing Units, 56 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 1000MHz.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 1GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 256-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 1500MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 85W, it requires at least a 450W PSU with one available 6-pin connectors.

Performance
Radeon HD 7790 competes with GeForce GTX 650 Ti and its performance is slightly above it.

System Suggestions
Radeon HD 7790 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1600x900. We recommend a Decent Processor (Intel Core i3 Quad Core/AMD FX Quad Core) and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.

Can some Wise one please clarify?
Will this GPU somehow support DX12? (I know here in GD it say's dx 11.1)
bc i read something a bit confusing there…
http://wccftech.com/amd-confirms-gcn-cards-feature-full-directx-12-support-feature-level-111-gcn-10-feature-level-120-gcn-1112/
so what i understand is: Yes there is DX12 support but not 100%
If so then i made the right key choice with it!;-)

this by any means did not support directx 12, buy the latest release of video card that came out next year. Pascal is the best choices.

I had a Reason i mentioned "some Wise one" sorry but you don't seem to be "Wise" i guess you didn't even try to google that topic…
Wise ones do Research first and don't pull off something like that…
So, now we know that GPU will indeed support DX 12 like AQtun81 mentioned and i expected!

Every AMD graphic card with Graphics Core Next 1.1 or higher will support DirectX 12 , I think you just need to update drivers after Windows 10 release

I've had an old PSU (Huntkey CP300) for 6 years. I'm planning to upgrade my HD 4670 to HD 7790. 4670 is 65W and 7790 is 85W. Do you think that PSU can run my PC with new games from now on? I hear the 7790 can consume up to 150W.

I don't think that it will be enough considering the power consumption of the card and the age of you psu. I had a 450W psu and my system run with no problems for a year. After that I upgraded my cpu, motherboard and ram so I though I change my psu as well. Also I would strongly recommend that you go for a lower tier card cuz this one is going to be bottlenecked by your cpu and ram.

I also have plans to upgrade my Ram to 4gb and to 6gb if possible. My friend gives me the 7790 so it's not my place to refuse it :D. My budget isn't very big so I think buying a Corsair VS550W PSU first is the right choice :). Thanks :).

I had a 450W and a i5 750k. I did not come across any problems. But I would recommend a 500W.

You would be able to run even on 350W PSU, a system with this card would consume 250W.

I don't think so. You know, it wil increase the perfomance, but not a lot… Because, the onboard gpu of your CPU is a good one (for been onboard) and you won't notice a great difeference, you would even go better making an Hybrid Crossfire

(especial feature of the APU family) with a 6670. It's cheaper and in my opinion it would work better.
