GeForce GTX 970 4GB SLI Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
GeForce GTX 970 4GB SLI is a solution of two GeForce GTX 970 4GB put together using NVIDIA's SLI technology.

Architecture
The Second variant of the Maxwell Architecture, despite being also manufactured with a 28nm technology, has an extremely large L2 Cache and features a Third Generation Delta Color Compression which allows NVIDIA to produce Graphics Cards with relatively small memory data transfer rates, without causing too much impact on the overall performance. Furthermore, the Shaders have been redesigned and are both more powerful and energy efficient.

GPU
It consists of 2 GPUs codenamed GM204-400-A1 which, together, offer 3328 Shader Processing Units, 208 TMUs and 128 ROPs, on a 512-bit memory interface of fast GDDR5. The central unit runs at 1050MHz and goes up to 1178MHz, in Turbo Mode, while the memory clock operates at 1753MHz.

Power Consumption
Power Consumption lies between 300W and 400W.

Performance
Gaming benchmarks prove that at 4K (3840x2160) GeForce GTX 970 4GB SLI is over 25% faster than Radeon HD 7990 and almost as fast as AMD's Radeon R9 295X2.

System Suggestions
We recommend a very strong processor (Intel Core i7 Six Core/AMD FX Eight Core) and 16GB of RAM for a system with GeForce GTX 970 4GB SLI.

@Lion94 Can't do that I won't be upgrading my processor to pair with nvidia's 1000 series, that is why I asked if I should get a 970 SLI

GTX 970 SLI has similar and in some cases superior performance to the GTX 1070. Supports DX12, will handle anything you throw at it including VR and you can pick up a second 970 used online for under $200. Or you can pick up the $400-$600 GTX 1080 and not use its full potential for years. Your call. I would save $ tho.

Thanks, sounds like my best option would be to get a second gtx 970 for SLI, but can you tell me what are the benefits and consequences of using a used graphics card since you suggested a used 970? (for example: is it possible for a person to install a virus onto the used graphics card or any sort of program that can damage my computer?)

Personally, you should always buy a single card over any type of multi config. The amount of games that support SLI are few and far between. However, if all the games you're gonna be playing support it, and you know for sure, then it's worth it. In other words, do some research first before shelling out money on a second card, and compare performance with a single card from an upgraded series.

I checked a lot of forums many months ago (970 sli vs single card) and single card wins all the time. Thanks for your reply :) The price of 1080 is too high here(+-1000$) :(

Would this PSU be good enough for GTX 970 SLI and I7-4790K?
