Will I be able to play on 2560x1440 with my planned rig or do I need at least a 980?

No with your screen resolution, also with 1080p it should be fine as well the i5 4460 is a mid range gaming processor.

Although I would advise you to go for a GTX 960.

If you are going to keep at your current resolution or 1080p
