Radeon HD 5970 Review
The Evergreen series is a family of GPUs developed by AMD graphics products division. The existence was spotted on a presentation slide from AMD Technology Analyst Day July 2007 as 'R8xx'. ATI held a press event in the USS Hornet museum on September 10, 2009 and announced ATI Eyefinity multi-display technology and specifications of the Radeon HD 5800 series' variants. The first variants of the Radeon HD 5800 series were launched September 23, 2009, with the HD 5700 series launching October 12 and HD 5970 launching on November 18 The HD 5670, was launched on January 14, 2010, and the HD 5500 and 5400 series were launched in February of 2010, completing what has appeared to be most of ATI's Evergreen GPU lineup.
Demand so greatly outweighed supply that more than two months after launch, many online retailers were still having trouble keeping the 5800 and 5900 series in stock.

This is basicly considered a 5870 x2. Figuratively this card would completely level your card :) a 5870 alone is better then yours.

450 euro = $604 = more than a 7970 (which is just $300) lololol
And this one compared to 7970.

even a 7950 cost about $300, and its performance is better, use less power, not to mention when HD 8000 comes out, there will probably be a price drop :p. I don't know where do you live but I think it's in Europe and get an 7950 x2 for about $600-$650 is not that hard.

alt639
17:05 Sep-01-2012

That version is out, but the regular OC edition is better. Also, the 7950 is a better card than the 5970, so definitely the 7950. Not worth the upgrade over your 7850 though, especially at your resolution.

Why is this card ranked so low. It should be able to destroy a hd 6970 or maybe even a 7970. It has 3200 shaders versus 1536 on the 6970 an 2048 on the 7970.
alt639
03:39 Jul-27-2012

Different architectures between all of them. This does beat a 6970 by the way, but can't touch a 7970.

It shows the theory behing it. But Only thing I look at when using benchmarks are actual gaming benchmarks...i.e. fps in each game compared. I don't like site that show "benchmarks" but with no gaming proof. Just my opinion. For me, it is the gaming performance that matters the most. The reason for that is, different cards handle games differently. Example the texel rate is faster on one card than another but the game you are playing does not utilise that benefit or is poorly optimised and then the slower one beats it. HD compare shows that the difference between 4870 and 6850 is only minor...and we all know that is not true. Try to fing gaming benchmarks.

yes but when a gfx has better specs it is meant that it will run better games...and as u saw on pixel and texel rate is 2 times faster than 7970..

those are theoretical stats,http://www.hwcompare.com/11017/geforce-gtx-295-vs-geforce-gtx-560/ from this page you can see that the 295 data is stronger then most of current cards and yet even the 560 out perfroms it .real life stats and the company's info arent always going hand to hand
