I purchased one of these and I'll be installing it as soon as it comes in tomorrow. It's probably overkill for me at my current 1920x1080 resolution, but I got it primarily because my Sapphire Radeon R9 290X Tri-X OC Edition is having weird issues with its fan, even though I repaired it a few months ago, and also because I've been meaning to upgrade my GPU for a while now. I've been waiting..and waiting..and waiting for AMD to release even some details on the 490X or 500 series or whatever they're calling Vega…so I'm hoping I didn't make a huge mistake

..ordering this. I'm also aware than nVidia is releasing their Pascal-refresh line at some point, as well.
I felt like the GTX 1080 would definitely be overkill for me at this point, plus it was out of my price range. I felt like this 1070 would be a good middle ground between the performance of my 290X and the GTX 1080, and more of an upgrade than what I had originally considered: the R9 480, which would have been more of a side-grade. Also, I feel like I overpaid for the 290X when I got it :( I think this will last me about as long, and…

..I've read it has OC potential. The 290X is somewhat difficult to OC, at least mine is, since it's technically already OC'd. This Asus STRIX ROG etc. GTX 1070 is also factory OC'd, but I've read it has more OC potential.
I've also checked a few sites to see if I would have a bottleneck with my current CPU, which I have moderately OC'd, and the consensus I've gathered is that it shouldn't bottleneck it. Regardless, I would like to upgrade the rest of my system in the next year or so, and I think this GPU will certainly still be viable to carry over.

does your CPU handle the card? I was thinking to buy this card but I'm not sure if my CPU will hold it back. It's overclocked to 3.8ghz, might get 4.0ghz if I change a bit BLCK. I thought about 1060 but thats not a big upgrade from mine :

Is this card overkill for my setup or a sound investment on the upgrade road?

I think the 1070 is overkill for 1080p, but if u plan on gaming at 1440p then 1070 is perfect. 1060 is 10/10 for 1080p and if u get the 6gb more future proff

Unless you use 1080p 144hz monitor, then at least 1070 is a must if you playing aaa games.

Hello! Would I have any problems if I swapped my 960 for this beast of a card? Would my lowly 4460 bottleneck it? Or would I be better off stepping down to the 1060 version and saving a bit of cash? Primarily play at 1080p.

No need for higher than GTX 1060 for 1080p thought, GTX 1070 crushes stuff on 1440p and is even able for 4K. But if you want to go the futureproof way, go with GTX 1070.

Hello! You will get a big bottleneck with the FX-6300, and a small bottleneck with the FX-8350. I recommend you FX-8370, i5-4690K, i5-6600K, i7-4770K, i7-4790K and i7-6700K (the best match with this GPU). But, if you'll play at higher resolutions than 1080p, FX-8350 is enough. I recommend you to buy another 8GB ram…
