Mobility Radeon HD 5650 Game Requirement Analysis

Mobility Radeon HD 5650 is a middle-class GPU based on the 40nm, Terascale 2 architecture.
It's based on the Madison LE Core and offers 400 Shader Processing Units, 20 TMUs and 8 ROPs, on 128-bit memory interface of standard GDDR3. The central unit runs at 450MHz and the memory clock operates at up to 800MHz. It consumes no more than 15 Watt.
Benchmarks indicate most modern demanding games of 2007-2010, such as Crysis, BF2 and Metro 2033 were only playable at low settings smoothly, using a 720p resolution. Therefore, today's modern demanding games should only be playable on the low preset, using a 720p resolution and extremely demanding modern games such as Crysis 3 might require very reduced settings.

I have this gpu on my acer 5943G and i play games like fifa 15 (demo) and BF4 on multiplayer with no problem. I don't understant why is so low rated here because it works great for me.

You know, buddy, put those grouped ratings aside and forget 'em. :) What really counts is that you know what your card is able to accomplish with the i7 pushing it, and also that you enjoy your games to the max! Yeah, buddy! I know that most of my games with this card are smoothly enjoyed on HIGH, and than some . . . are seriously enjoyed on ultra! :) Which even some modern cards can't do! :)

Hi, Therione13! Yeah, I contacted some gamers in "10" Australia who had bought the HPDV7model with the i7-840QM, who were getting amazing overclocks better than a regular HD5850m because of that cpu, so I ordered for purely travel and gaming. But, buddy, a friend with a Sony i5-430m has the record for 3DMark11 with P2588. You can Google it. He set the 5650 volts up and, -Yeah! -Not me, -not yet!:)

Therione13, just Google this: HD5650 P2588 And 3DMark11 page will pop right up. I've been tempted to overvolt my HD5650, but there is no reason since all of my games run fantastic! LOL! :)

Hi, Therione13, most-times this instability to overclock has to do with the bios: if the OEM sees that too many people are R-M-ing this whatever model laptop because of overheating issues, they will modify the bios to correct it; so if you have updated the Sony bios for your lappy, roll it back and the ATI/AMD GPU clocktool will most likely be more able to attain better clock speeds, buddy! :)

Oh, Therione13, besides the ati/amd clocktool, which is safest, not worth losing a laptop, you can also use Sapphire Trixx to both overclock and overvolt; but if you do this, do it safely with internet research, which can be done at the 'Notebook Review' forums. :) They have plenty of good archived advise!:)

Therione13, I did talk to my buddy recently and he told me that he had to get a 120watt power brick for his Sony, which originally had a 90watt, to overclock his HD5650 otherwise it would blackscreen and freeze when he overclocked like yours, too. So hopefully this will help you. :) I use a 130PeakWatt. :)

Quick note: Gaming temps on my overclocked GDDR3 HD 5650 range from 71c to 74c max using CPUID Hardware Monitor; CPUZ; and Speedfan. :) HWINFO 064, HWM Blackbox and GPUCAPS Viewer are also sometimes used!

Been awhile since any comments here; but I have to say that I haven't felt the pressure or need to upgrade my laptop. Its overclocked GDDR3 HD5650's performance values with an i7 feeding it in gaming since launch has kept me happy! 4 years! Still I understand that this card does come in a wide variety. I'm HAPPY! :)

Hello,
Basically, most of AMD GPUs are hard to read due to their similarities. Let me start by saying you have DDR3-1333MHz, so please select 1333MHz :D
BTW, your GPU does not support crossfire, so please don't select "x2" or you will be reporting inaccurate data.
There is nothing wrong with your GPU. It's still a decent GPU but falls behind today's mid-range laptop GPUs (e.g. GT 630M).
