GeForce GT 220 1GB Review
GeForce GT 220 1GB is an entry-level GPU based on the 2009, 40nm, second-generation unified architecture.
It's based on the GT216 Core and offers 48 Shader Processing Units, 16 TMUs and 8 ROPs, on 128-bit memory interface of standard DDR3. The central unit runs at 625MHz and the memory clock operates at up to 790MHz.
It's only suited for modest 3D games (high settings). Modern demanding games will have to be played at the lowest settings or are unplayable at all. DirectX 11 games aren't supported.

my nvidia geforce 7950gx2 is better?
lakewashoceanbath
21:09 Mar-23-2013

Of course it is, but the 7950GX2 only supports games up to DirectX 9.0c while the GT220 supports games up to DirectX 10.1
Other than that, your GX2 is more powerful.

Dont, consult an expert (here in GD) ask for which is the best upgrade for you.
I suggest upgrading that CPU then the GPU.

Hmm your problem is the Motherboard, It is really old, you'll need one that supports i3/i5/i7 chipsets with PCI 3.0 in it, which allows all the current GPU or CPU in the market
Also check if your PSU can hold it, check the Amperage over Wattage
Good Hunting

what board is good and cheap ?
lakewashoceanbath
13:38 Mar-24-2013

You don't need a new board-upgrade to a Core 2 Quad Q9650. Then upgrade your PSU to 750W. After that, you can get a new GPU (HD 7770 or GTX 650Ti).

1- What is your price range?
2- This card is pretty weak. You may not realize its stupidity now but later... Believe me, I had experiences with stupid cards, especially the 200 Series :D

amd and nvidia graphics card work on any motherboard that has a pcie x16 slot. Only the intel/amd processors are motherboard specific. and download cpu-z gives you all the information you need about your motherboard/bios/processor you would want to know.

Do you know the brand or the model? A good quality branded 450W PSU might be better than a cheap 700W one, so it's important to have your Rig powered alright when planning to upgrade :D
