Overview
GeForce GT 540M 2GB is a middle-class Mobile Graphics Card based on the first revision of the Fermi Architecture.
Architecture
The Fermi Architecture is manufactured with a 40nm technology and uses a technique known as Hot Clocking: The Shaders are clocked twice as fast as the Central Unit. While this leads to a reasonable performance boost, it causes enormous amounts of energy dissipation, leading, ultimately, to a significantly higher operating temperature.
Fermi is also the first GPU architecture with fully cached memory access which increases memory performance.
GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed GF108 which has 2 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 96 Shader Processing Units, 16 TMUs and 4 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 672MHz.
Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of DDR3, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is exaggerated and in no way benefits the GPU. The Memory Clock Operates at 900MHz.
Features
DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for Optimus, 3D Vision Surround, PhysX, Realtime Raytracing and other technologies
Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 35W, it is suited for 15" or larger laptops.
Performance
Gaming benchmarks put its performance only slightly below a desktop GeForce GT 430.
System Suggestions
We recommend a modest processor (Intel Core i3 Mobile) and 4GB of RAM for a system with GeForce GT 540M 2GB.
some manufacturers change the clock by their will
same with mine i changed it to 900MHZ, but i notice no difference
Hey, I'm wondering why there is a possible GPU upgrade listed in the specs. Isn't it impossible to change the GPU in laptops?
On some it's possible.
That is only there to guide you that when you buy a new laptop, buy one with a GFX at least as powerful as the one we suggest.
Oh, ok :)
hello
when i see the speces on control panel it says i have memory bandwidth 25.6GB/sec although the official site says 28.8GB/sec, Is it beacuse i increased my ram to 6g.b but lower speed to 1066 than 1600.
How much that effecting my gaming ?
please reply :(
Like I said on your wall buddy.
However, this shouldn't affect your performance at 720p.
works Like a charm i used nvidia system tool
thanks so much :D
Hy
The GD Rating of this GPU was 4 about a month ago and now its 5.
i noticed it changes the gray tick into a green tick on many games, and instead of saying low to medium setting it says medium setting.
how far can i trust this Rating ??
Hi.
Very Far :P
I have rebalanced laptop GPUs so our tools aren't so harsh in the system requirements. :)
OK then :)
I've got another question for you, I notice that when i play a game for about 2 hours or more the performance is reduced a little bit, that keep happening till I quit and restart the game, just in some games not all of them.
any ideas ??
Yes, could be the temperatures of the CPU/GPU rising or that Windows is Swapping too much. Try to monitor their temps and check RAM usage and Virtual Memory usage, after 2 hours :)
What is the best tool to benchmark my games so i can adjust my settings perfectly ??
Hy,Pip please make a table like this for nvidia geforce 500m series : http://www.game-debate.com/news/?news=2458&gpu=GeForce%20GTX%20660M&title=Nvidia%20Geforce%20600M%20Series%20Relative%20Performance
i don't understand: in many games marks the green tick (medium) on this GPU, but is not true! for example, Spec Ops: the line and Alice Madness Returns marks the green tick but i have tried this games on max and it works on 60-50 fps (sorry for the english)
My laptops model is 5750G, and it has a GT 540M graphics card. It says here its "Dedicated" and not Integrated, do it mean i can upgrade my GT 540M to GeForce GTX 460M?
Only few top laptops can change it's GPU.
So what do Dedicated mean?
Dedicated GPU is the one which has it's own Processor/Engine and uses it's own Video RAM unlike integrated that needs your system RAM in order to operate.
I got a question, why the $#@& is my GFX card supports higher resolution but my Stuck on 1366x768 and goes no further ? maybe it's because of the intel integrated GPU that i have in my PC ? and can i fix it ?

Although the default mem clock is listed as 900MHz here, mine is 800MHz stock- WTF!??. AND when I 'overclock'(is it even:)) it to 900MHz there are stability problems with most games. My 'puter is an Acer 4750G.
