Pentium G645 2.9GHz Game Requirement Analysis

Pentium G645 2.9GHz is a budget processor based on the 32nm, Sandy Bridge architecture.

It offers 2 Physical Cores (2 Logical), clocked at 2.9GHz and 3MB of L3 Cache.
Among its many features, Virtualization is activated.

The processor integrates very weak Graphics called Intel HD Graphics Desktop (Bay Trail), with 6 Execution Units, initially clocked at 850MHz and that go up to 1100MHz, in Turbo Mode which share the L2 Cache and system RAM with the processor.
Both the processor and integrated graphics have a rated board TDP of 65W.

It offers average performance. This means it will become a bottleneck in some demanding applications.

Is it at all possible to overclock this processor? Or am I better off saving for an upgrade?

Get an upgrade, overclocking this would be pointless since it is a dual core, most games now require a min of dual core and recommend quad or better, therefore if you want to game higher than low-medium settings you would want to get a upgrade that is at least 4 core

comparing two cpus, especially from different companies (intel and amd) is very hard… there are stuff like architecture, clock speed, cache, ammount of cores, multithreading, other technologies you have to bear in mind. also, usually mobile processors are weaker than pc's , so that they use less power. the only real way to compare is to look for benchmarks for games or other tasks

According to GD this one is by a tad better, after all it is a desktop CPU while your's is a mobile.

In short terms :
Get more money and buy a I3/Moterboard / 4Gb ram
or get the E8400 if the price is good .In games 8400 performs the same as G645 . G645 is more fast in applications but for that GPU i recommend a I3 CPU .
That 's my advice.

No problem! i'm glad i could help .
Man also see if that motherboard supports the I3 third generation cpu . Try to verify if that mobo has the latest bios update , otherwise it is possible that it won't see the i3 3220 cpu.
you should buy the GA-H61M-DS2 (rev. 3.0 , 2.0 or ,2.2) to be sure. i wish you good luck !!!

i think you should go for E8500 and overlock it to 3.8/4.0 ghz per core, it will outperform G645 and even many i3 s i bet… and no bottleneck will be with your GPU too.
but i cant understand why my E 8500 is 13% worse than G645? mine has twice more cache and 400 mhz faster… :?

It's not much of an improvement on your current CPU bro. So I'd say if it's bottlenecking now, itl probably bottleneck your GPU.

Is this CPU okay for gaming with my 6670? I was about to buy the i3 3220 but saw this CPU at half the price! I doubt I'll upgrade my 6670 so will this CPU be enough?
