FX-8350 Game Requirement Analysis

FX-8350 is a high-end CPU based on the 32nm Piledriver architecture.

It offers 8 Physical Cores (8 Logical), initially clocked at 4.0GHz, which may go up to 4.2GHz and 8MB of L3 Cache.
Among its many features, Turbo Core and Virtualization are activated and the clock multiplier is unlocked, meaning it can be overclocked easily.

The processor DOES NOT integrated any graphics. and has a rated board TDP of 125W.

Compared to its competitor Core i7-3770K it performs around 12% worse. Still, its performance is very good and sufficient for extreme gaming.

I recommend Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3. This generally the cheapest "990FX" chipset motherboard, so it is very good for overclocking and can supply enough power to the CPU when doing it

You will have an excellent, even VR-capable PC, so enjoy.

If you cannot afford it, the cheapest "safe" motherboards I recommend are ASUS M5A97 R.20 and MSI 970 Gaming. Both have 8 pin CPU power connectors and good heatsinks, so they can handle the delivery of power to the very power hungry FX 8350

i5 6500 if you cannot find 8350 for below -67% of the i5 price. Find one bundled with the wraith cooler, too. Also, in the states microcenter has great deals on cheap i5s (got my i5 4590 for $160 and CPU+mobo combo savings.)

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/970A-SLI-Krait-Edition.html#hero-overview this one is pretty decent. I had one and it was pretty good. Everything was relatively good quality. if you plan to NOT overclock your cpu you are golden with it. Here in Croatia it is 100€. But if you would like to oc cpu a little bit i would suggest https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/970-PRO-GAMING-AURA/ because it is very good quality and its only 120€.This one also get you more features like m

on asus 970 pro gaming aura I can get stable 4.6GHz on air at 63c max temp at stress testing. if i can get water i could get easily to 5GHz. But on msi 970a sli krait edition i couldnt get over 4.4GHz.

The ASUS 970 PRO GAMING AURA has 4+2 VRMS and the A970 MSI KRAIT EDITION HAS 4+1VRMS.they both aren't great for high overclock, and if you want to push the cpu above 4.4ghz you need a 990FX Chipset instead, overall both of these motherboards are good enough for Stock FX CPU And or slight overclock :D

You are welcome.but as i said if you want to run at stock speeds or a little OC,then you can get one of these two boards, they are around 80-100€,The 990FX boars will cost above 130€ depends of the model, and also if you plan to overclock a lot,you need WATER COOLING.,Slight overclock and or running at stock i consider a good air cooler like a CM hyper 212 evo to keep the temps under 50C.

The 970 chipsets and hyper 212 evo is able to do 4.5ghz as an maximum on that,i wouldn't go any higher, and a good 970 board is also just fine if you aren't an heavy overclocked,i run my cpu at 4.4ghz on a A970 krait msi board,it runs fine but i just need to maintain to lower the temps inside the case :D

Just a cooler master hyper 212 evo in push and pull mode : plus 3 additonal fans in the case for good airflow.
Cpu temp is at around 50C on full load, which is fine for me! :D

I love my 8350 but honestly, the 1070 would probably be bottle necked by the 8350. Intel's Core i7-6700K would probably perform much better. As for the the PSU, as long as it is a good 500w PSU you should be okay.

You can overclock, but you will really want a motherboard with 990FX chipset. They provide more stable OC. Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 is the cheapest board I've seen. Noctua D14 and up is needed to tame the 8350 with good OC and temperatures.

I have the 8350 with the Asus M5A97 R2.0 and i'm able to get a 4.5GHz oc, though I have not tried to push it farther. Like AFriend1yProxy said, if you want to do a heavy overclock, it's best to get a motherboard with the 990 chipset.
I am using the Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO heatsink buy I am getting a H100i v2 water cooler today in the mail. Can't wait to see how it performs. Maybe I will try pushing my CPU a bit harder.

I'm sorry to say but this won't help your overheating situation. It consumes more power and is not compatible with your current motherboard unless you change. The best immediate course of action is to buy a new CPU cooler like a Hyper T4.

I have this CPU and I run the hell out of it… but yes she does run "hot" Sits around 60 degrees while gaming sometimes spiking to 65, and throttling I use an aftermarket cooler, but it sometimes isn't enough. I'm going to shift to water cooling eventually. Keep that in mind….

Yeah, the 8350 is a hot chip, especially if you overclock. I recommend that if you are going to get the 8350 you get an aftermarket cooler. I have the Hyper 212 EVO. When gaming I run at about 60c with a 4.5GHz OC. Beware though, the Hyper 212 EVO as HUGE. If you are going to get one, make sure it will fit in your case.

The processor is "hotter" (watts are a measurement of heat) but the surface area is a lot larger as the die is a lot larger so at stock it's hotter but with the correct cooler with a larger contact surface then it will be cooler if that makes sense.

It is hotter in the sense that its 125W Thermal Design Power is more than twice as high than the 65W on the A8-7600.

Would an R9 380 be a good match with the FX-8350?

in my opinion wait for Zen to release, these are still made with 32nm technology.

Yeah wait for Zen, upgrading to this with your current setup isn't worth it at all. The difference you'll see in games is very minimal at best.

Zen will take more than a half year to come to the consumers market.

People ooh and ah over this sort of thing all the time. I say he's got the correct motherboard socket and chipset, for the price the FX8350 goes for it's pennies.
I got mine a while ago and had folk going "Uh, you should have gone for the i7".
Why? There's not much in it but the cpu+board colds less than the i7.

If you aim for budget then ofc you can get this cpu damn, even i use it.But you have to admit that game performance in this aint gonna give you alot of time.Thats why i recommend i5 6500 over this. The better single core&IPC the better gaming.

No, since there's only more cores but no slight performance change. Get like a i5 or i7, or even wait for AMD ZEN.

It does say 39% better for me. I've been thinking of doing this upgrade and I'm sure it would be worth it. Changing to an Intel motherboard would add a hell of a lot to the upgrade cost.
