Core i7-4770K 4-Core 3.5GHz Game Requirement Analysis

Core i7-4770K 4-Core 3.5GHz is a high-end CPU based on the 22nm Haswell architecture.

It offers 4 Physical Cores (8 Logical), initially clocked at 3.5GHz, which may go up to 3.9GHz and 8MB of L3 Cache.
Among its many features, HyperThreading, Turbo Boost and Virtualization are activated and the processor has multiplier unlocked.

The processor integrates powerful Graphics called Intel HD Graphics 4600, with 20 Execution Units, initially clocked at 350MHz and that go up to 1250MHz, in Turbo Mode which share the L2 Cache and system RAM with the processor.
Both the processor and integrated graphics have a rated board TDP of 84W.

Compared to its predecessor Core i7-3770K there's an overall 7% performance boost. Its performance is exceptionally good and enough for even the most demanding applications.

Of course you would want a dedicated graphics card with this beast or you must exclusively do CPU intensive tasks ;-)

If I upgrade my cpu to i7 4th gen, can I survive 3-4 years more or Fx-8350 is just fine? I am playing games and some autocad time to time.

Should have got the 4790k instead, haswell does not overclock as well as devils canyon.

But I feel you on losing the silcon lottery that bad, my GPU barely can overclock, and my old AMD CPU couldn't get 4.3 without 1.45 volts lol

lol I did something similar for my first CPU buy, ended up with something really bad though (Didn't have enough money to search by highest price). Hopefully your next CPU you buy wont be the worst overclocker, I personally hate when I get a chip that can't overclock without a million volts in it lmao

With a Zallman Z11 case, a bunch of £5 fans, and the Coolmaster Hyper 212 Plus, I rarely hit 50C. The only time I get serious temps is when I play a game on Ultra while rendering a video.
As far as I can tell, water cooling doesn't work very well with this CPU. Others with the Hyper 212 get the same temps as me.
I'm also overclocked to 4.5GHz.

All he says is that i5 are less expensive than i7s and achieve the same perfomance with i7s in gaming. I agree mostly, though not always. Thought the times i7s are better are so few that if you re building just a gaming pc then you dont

I think to add in on this, your real life benefit for going to an i7 CPU is if you want to SLI or get monster gpu's. Otherwise i5 CPU's will give the same gaming performance as any i7, other than a little longer in load times. And before you say go research your i7's a bit more, I already know what im talking about.
