Core i5-3230M 2.6GHz Review

Core i5-3230M 2.6GHz is a middle-class mobile processor based on the 22nm, Ivy Bridge architecture.

It offers 2 Physical Cores (4 Logical), initially clocked at 2.6GHz, which may go up to 3.2GHz and 3MB of L3 Cache.
Among its many features, Turbo Boost and Virtualization are activated and the processor has multiplier unlocked.

The processor integrates mildly powerful Graphics called Intel HD Graphics 4000, with 16 Execution Units, initially clocked at 650MHz and that go up to 1100MHz, in Turbo Mode which share the L2 Cache and system RAM with the processor.
Both the processor and integrated graphics have a rated board TDP of 35W.

It offers average performance. This means it will become a bottleneck in some demanding applications.

One Problem when using this CPU with any other GPU is that this CPU contains an Integrated Intel 4000 (BAD GPU) so whenever you want to play a game you need to

I'm planning to buy a notebook, but didn't decide yet which one would be better.
1.) i5-3230m, nVidia 740m 2GB DDR3 (128bit version)
or
2.) i7-4500u, Radeon HD 8850m 2GB DDR5 ?
will play games on 1366x768, so which one would perform better?
RAM and everything others is prett

Get the second one as it is well balanced, with both hardware with 7GD rank. It means that none of your component would bottleneck each other in games. When combined with 8GB ram, it could play next gen games on medium to high settings easily :D

Yeah, the Second notebook would be a better choice. At 1366x768 resolution, the second notebook will run most of the game at high settings. Also its balanced as said by Ajesh.

should be a good match. the bottleneck will be the GPU in most games but that leaves a bit of excess CPU for stuff like music and things like that while gaming.

No. of cores doesn't matter. The technology of i5 is more powerful. You must have seen i3 processors. They are dual core but more powerful than many quad core processors of 2nd generation. So, i5 3230M is powerful than your quad core processor ;D

If for gaming, it isn't a very good laptop, cause the GPU is very slow. But if not, it is a very decent laptop.

Yarizmass you have to pay attention to native res. You are correct with 1080p no way he could pull those stats but perhaps on 769p or lower res.

the lenovo one,coz all the CPU's are about the same, and the GT630m is better than the other GPU's,however it is still too weak to run some games.

Actually AMD Radeon HD7670M(2GB) is slightly better than GT630m(1GB). According to GD i can run NFS MW2 in high settings in AMD 7670 but Nvidia can run it in medium settings only plus samsung's HDD is 1TB i mean thats a bonus right xD but thanks for you reply :)
